William J. Seefeldt, Jr., age 93, passed away at the Virginian on July 19, 2019. Bill was born in Philadelphia, PA on January 4, 1926. He graduated from his dear alma mater, Ridley Park High School, in 1944. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and attended Penn State and the University of Chicago under the GI Bill. He was a career civil servant at the Pentagon, receiving many commendations for his work as a Budget Analyst for the Department of the Army. In retirement, he was a docent at the Boyhood Home of Robert E. Lee. He had a deep knowledge of the Big Bands of the 1930s and 40s, developing and curating a website on the subject, as well as hosting monthly shows at the Virginian. He loved to sing and was a member of various groups during his lifetime. Bill was an avid reader, a lifelong learner, and a detailed list maker; he loved telling stories. But most of all, he was devoted to his family. Bill is preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Betty Jane Morales Seefeldt and his parents William Seefeldt, Sr. and Margaret Armbruster Seefeldt. He is survived by his children Bart (Sharon) Seefeldt of Albany, NY and Carol (Peter) Griffith of Fairfax, VA; and his grandchildren Victoria, Kennedy and Stephanie Seefeldt; and Alison, Matthew, Taylor and Lindsay Griffith. A private memorial will be held at The Virginian on August 16, 2019. Interment at Columbia Gardens Cemetery is private.

  1. Missing you everyday but so grateful for the time we had together! Thank you for always supporting me in my endeavors, calling me on my birthday, teaching me all about history, and for always loving me! My life is better because you were in it! Until we meet again, Gege! I love you! -Tori

  2. My grandfather was always so proud and supportive of me and he never failed to let me know. Gege was always so happy and could tell you anything you wanted to know about sports. Whenever I visited him and I was asked who I was visiting I always received an “oh yes, he’s very popular around here and well liked tell him I said hello!” I am very lucky to have had him as my grandfather and I will cherish all the moments we spent together for the rest of my life! I love him with all my heart and will miss him very much.

  3. So sorry to learn of Bills passing. We lost touch with each other. Bill Mom was a proud Armbruster and Bill shared her passion to learn the Armbruster histories. Please accept our deepest sympathy, Tom and Lynn Armbruster tomarmbtuster@comcast.net
