Steve and I met down in Buies Creek, NC in the early 60s. He was a regular visitor for the summer at Steve s Mama Lala’s home on Mclamb Road. We were tenant tobacco farmers that happened to rent Mama Lala’s and uncle Damon’s farms adjoining our farm on Mclamb Rd. We were the same age with Steve the senior by a couple months. Steve became a farmer during those summers together. We shared all our availabile time together. We shared interest in BB guns, bicycles and roaming the dirt roads sharing adventures together. His family and uncle Damon would invite me along to their home in Vienna, Va for my first trip outside NC. We had a grand tour of Washington DC and all sites included. The last time I saw Steve was when he was living at Mama Lala’s house and attending Campbell University 1966. I was squirrel hunting in the woods nearby and he came walking up. I was up for the draft and soon in Vietnam. He went on to finish Campbell. I still live a mile from Mclamb rd today and run my dogs daily on that same dirt road walking and remembering our good times together. God’s speed and great memories my friend.
