July 23, 1960-October 3, 2017

Cheryl Lee Stemberger died Tuesday October 3, 2017 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital at the age of 57. Cheryl was the mother of Claire and Lily and the wife of Edward. In addition to her husband and children, she is survived by her mother Elaine McCarty, her father Mike McCarty, her brother Kevin McCarty (Michelle), all of her hometown in Wisconsin, and her many nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.

Mrs. Stemberger was born and raised in Eau Claire, WI and earned a degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She married Edward Stemberger in 1996 and moved to Falls Church, VA and later Vienna, VA.

Mrs. Stemberger enjoyed her life here in the nation’s capital, in particular taking in concerts at Wolf Trap, watching Claire’s crew races on the Potomac River and visiting the museums on school field trips with Lily. Prior to the birth of her children, Cheryl worked for Starwood Hotels, supervising hotel renovations along the East Coast. Later, as a stay-at-home mom, Cheryl was one of Lily’s Girl Scout troop leaders. She also enjoyed attending the girls’ sporting events and Lily’s piano recitals. Cheryl’s favorite place to visit was Bermuda, where she enjoyed the aqua blue waters, the serenity of the calm beaches, and, of course, the fabulous shopping.

Relatives and friends are invited to Cheryl’s Life Celebration at Money and King Funeral Home, 171 West Maple Avenue Vienna, VA on Tuesday October 10 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 8601 Wolftrap Road Vienna, VA on Wednesday October 11 at 11a.m. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Save the Children. Online condolences and fond memories of Cheryl may be offered to the family at www.moneyandking.com

  2. Lily , Claire and Ed
So saddened for your loss. I have fond memories of your mom cheering for Claire from the riverbank or the audience at OLGC hearing Lily sing. No words can make it better. I’ll remember how proud your mom was of you and I know she will be proud of all you do in the future.
    Praying for all of you,
Heidi Alan Collin Holden and Luke Snyder
