David Richard Coates, 90, passed away on Friday, May 4, 2018 at his home in Vienna, Va. Beloved husband of Virginia M. Coates; devoted father of Joanna Ballhagen (Rodger), Sharon Coates and Priscilla Connolly (Mark). Also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was a US Navy veteran serving as a Seaman. Visitation will begin at 10 AM followed by a funeral service at 11 AM at Faith Baptist Church, 301 Center St., Vienna, Va. on Wednesday, May 9, 2018. Interment at National Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Capital Caring Hospice.

The Coates family, a very kind and loving family, lived 2 houses down from my family on Center St, Vienna, Va while i was growing up. Many times i would call out, ‘Hi Mr Coates’ over the years and he always stopped to wave and respond with a kind ‘hello’ back. My condolences to the family on Mr Coates passing, I’m sure i’ll always remember him in the years to come, and also Mrs Coates, his beloved wife, and Joanna, Priscilla and Sharon who welcomed us to the neighborhood back in 1972.
