Helen E. LaLone

Fairfax, VA: Helen E. LaLone of Fairfax, VA was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, June 24, 2017, while a patient at the Reston Hospital Center, Reston, VA. Though Helen lived in Antwerp, NY and Easton, MD most of her life, she resided in Fairfax, VA with her son for the past few years.

Helen was born on December 8, 1929, in Lowville, NY to Lester and Pearl (Wakefield) Weller. She attended school in Lowville, where she graduated high school early at the age of 16. She attended Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA for one semester before returning home to help her younger sisters after the death of their mother. She married Donald N. LaLone on June 3, 1950, and was happily married for 57 years until his death in January, 2008.

Helen worked in many different types of jobs including Woolworths, Avon, in-home day care, and later as a teaching assistant in a Christian school. She was an active member of the Easton Church of the Nazarene where she played the piano, sang, and taught children's Sunday School classes.

Helen loved the Lord, and her life was devoted to her husband and children. There are also many individuals in her extended family and friends who considered her their "mother". She always saw and expected the best in everyone and would see the positive side of every situation.

She was totally healed of a serious illness at the age of 14 and had an unwavering trust in and love for God. Her prayer life was a top priority for her, and in her later years it was not unusual for her to spend hours alone in prayer. She could be heard praying and singing to the Lord throughout the day, and you could not have a conversation with her without her telling you about the love of God.

Helen is survived by her sister, Julia Robinson (Elmira, NY), and six children, John LaLone and his wife Janet (Lenoir, NC), Vicki (LaLone) Dolinger and her husband Philip (Herndon, VA), Gary LaLone and his wife Betty (Canton, OH), David LaLone and his wife Susan (Duncannon, PA), Timothy LaLone (Fairfax, VA), and Jerry LaLone and his wife Donna (Preston, MD).

Helen was predeceased by her husband Don, grandson Jonathan, daughter-in-law Jeaneen; seven brothers, Duane, Harold, Clifford, Spencer, Vernon, and Lester Jr., Perry, and three sisters, Shirley, Arletha, and Esther. A celebration of Helen's life will be held on Monday, July 3, 2017, at Floris United Methodist Church located at 13600 Frying Pan Rd, Herndon, VA 20171. A viewing will be held from 1:00 pm - 2:45 pm followed by a memorial service at 3:00 pm. There will also be a memorial service in Lowville, NY, where Helen will be buried on a date to be determined.

Flowers may be delivered at the church between 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm on Sunday, July 2 or from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm on Monday, July 3. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to World Vision International to assist children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice.

  1. “Mom LaLone” as I called was a much loved mother and friend. To me she was a second Mom. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren very much. She was a Godly woman who spent hours each day praying for her family and friends. There were at least 100 names on her prayer list and she prayed for them every day. She will be sorely missed not only by her family but those of us who dearly loved her. I’m so glad mom alone that you were completely healed and that you are walking the streets of gold with Jesus by your side. I love you and I look forward to seeing you again in Heaven.

  2. We very fond of Helen and Don and were friends for many years. Our deepest sympathy to all of the family.

  3. I think Helen was the sweetest Lady I have ever known. She had a kind and gentle spirit that will be missed by every one that knew her.

  4. I met Helen Lalone through Tim and Jeaneen. I was always impressed by her quiet strength. I watched as she prayed for and supported her children and grandchildren when they suffered devastating losses. Her demeanor was that of a quiet and gracious woman but one who I knew to be a powerful prayer warrior. When I hear the words… Be the hands and feet of Jesus… There are only a few people that I immediately think about. Helen LaLone is one of those. Her presence will definitely be missed here on earth. I know what it is like to lose a mom and a grandmother. However, the powerful life that she lived through Christ will serve as an unending testimony to anyone who knew her. Her footsteps, small as they were, will continue to have an impact on the lives of her children and grandchildren and on anyone who had the privilege of knowing her. My heartfelt sympathy to the entire family. I had the privilege of being with all of you just a few weeks ago. I didn’t think this would happen so soon but God’s timing is always perfect. I ache for the pain I know you feel but I rejoice with Ms. Helen because of her homegoing and perfect healing. You have been blessed beyond measure to not only have known this woman but to have had the privilege of calling her mom and grandma… I truly believe that is why each and everyone of you are such special men and women who will carry the legacy of Helen Lalone on throughout your lives.

  5. My thoughts are with the family today as they gather to celebrate the life of this amazing woman. I will always remember Aunt Helen as sweet, petite and lovingly supportive. Most of my memories revolve around LaLone family reunions. She always gave me a big hug and asked about my work and children. Farewell Aunt Helen, see you next time in glory!

  6. A lovely Christian lady who with her husband raised a wonderful family the kind that America needs more of, in our village of ANTWERP,N.Y. Always there to help if needed and always caring and had time to “listen”. She always supported the “ORIGINAL YANKS” drum corps a group her husband helped establish and her sons played in. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

  7. I have fond memories of meeting Tim ‘ s sweet mother and being taught how to make her infamous apple pie! That was many years ago now, but I never lost the knack of making that pie and it’s a favorite with my boys. What a wonderful person and a great example of living and walking with Jesus she was to all she knew! Love and prayers to her loving family. ❤

  8. So praying for all of you today. I lost my mother two years ago after caring for her at home. Was looking forward to seeing you at the reunion but our God had other plans. Blessings to you all.

  9. Dear Tim, David, John & other siblings & families, Our hearts go out to all of you, and especially, Tim, whom we know the best, as you have been through so much loss recently. Please know our love & prayers are with you all. We did not know your mother, but would certainly aspire to be more like her in all we have read here. May your family rejoice in the fact that YOU WILL SEE HER again as you are in Christ, as she certainly was. He has “called her name” (that song is on the radio as we write this to you). She is safely with her Lord. May you know His peace and the love & support of friends & family during this time as you grieve your loss. Our prayers are with you.

  10. To the family of Helen – you may never know what she and her family gave me and did for me as a small child, but I know and God knows. She will always be in my heart ❤️ as will be her children. Peace, all good, and joy for the journey. She was that joy.
