Lt. Col Lee Anthony Bauer
May 31, 1944 ~ January 16, 2018
Lee Anthony Bauer, 73, was returned to his maker on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at his home in Reston, Virginia. Lee was born in Sycamore, Illinois, obtained a Master's of Psychology at Pepperdine University and served his community and country as a Deputy Sheriff in DeKalb County and with 21 years in the United States Air Force as a fighter pilot and squadron commander. He retired a USAF Lt. Colonel, went on to achieve his law degree at George Washington University and was actively practicing law as a partner in the law firm Roller and Bauer. Lee was a big-hearted person, enjoyed volunteering at the Dulles USO, taking long walks, and was famous for his pasta sauce. He was a master storyteller and captivated all who made time to listen. Lee Bauer was a loving husband, treasured father, devoted grandfather and valued friend. Lee is preceded in death by his father Denis Bauer and survived by his wife of 33 years Nancy Bauer, daughter Amy Bauer, mother Mary Bauer, sisters Denise and Renee, brothers Alan, David, and Richard, step-children Kevin, Patricia, and Tim, and seven grandchildren.

Lee was a remarkable man and a wonderful brother-in-law. He had a big heart, a great sense of humor and a razor sharp wit. Among all the things I will always remember him for, I will be forever grateful to him for very patiently teaching me how to do Sudoku puzzles. It wasn’t until after I finally grasped the process under his gentle coaching that I found out he was a luminary in the international Sudoku community. He could solve the most difficult puzzles in record time. Teaching me Sudoku must have been, for Lee, a lot like YoYo Ma trying to teach a child to play a fiddle. But typically, he never let on to the fact of his stature as a Sudoku whiz, and never showed the least sign of impatience at my plodding efforts. Thank you, Lee, for brightening this earth with your presence and for being a true inspiration to all of us who were privileged to know you! — Lynn Edwards

I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Lee. Lee was an initial member of the Prostate Cancer Education and Support Group at Reston Hospital Center when it started 5+ years ago. I can remember him giving a very detailed and inspirational talk on his cancer and how strongly he was handling it. Lee being a very methodical and eloquent speaker would even pronounce the meds he took better than the doctors. Lee was an inspiration to all of us and a mentor to me. Thanks again Lee for being a great role model for our group and I know you wore the Air Force uniform proudly and with dignity as I did. God Bless you, Lee Baur.

Thank you Jacob, he loved that group. I remember dad preparing for that talk and it ultimately led him to meet the doctors that accepted him into their experimental trial. Dad was a resourceful and inspiring advocate for his care and treatment.
“Wherever a beautiful soul has been, there is a trail of beautiful memories.” I have numerous memories of my brother Lee with his bright smile and open heart. I remember many walks through the trails in the woods by his home and wonderful conversations along the way. So pleased I was able to be in his presence recently. What wonderful memories I have of our friendship. How many people can say they climbed to the top of the Pyramids (on the outside,) watched the sunrise and went back to my house to have pancakes and bacon served by the General? Lee, we all loved you and will miss you. We loved playing bridge with you, the fun parties and all of the dancing.
