Nettie Lou Price Wissler of McLean, VA died at home on March 1, 2018, after a short battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family. Nettie Lou was 87 years old when she entered her eternal rest, joining the love of her life, husband Dr. Charles Wissler. She was born in Alexandria, LA on Oct. 6, 1930 to Jacob Price and Mattie Kinchen Price, then spent her childhood and teenage years in Pineville, LA. She subsequently married William Artie Carruth Jr., having a son, William Jeffrey Carruth, from that first marriage. In 1956, Nettie Lou moved to Washington DC and began work at the Pentagon in troop programming. She met her second husband in that position, CIA operations officer Ray Burke Gripman, and had a daughter, Mina Anneliese Gripman, in 1958. Graduating from the University of Virginia with a degree in English, she also taught biology at UVA in the latter 1950's. She later met and fell in love with Dr. Charles Wissler, the first dentist in McLean that maintained his practice there for life. During their marriage, Nettie Lou accomplished many things, including receiving her Master's in Fine Arts in Shakespearean Literature from American University in DC, being accepted as a doctoral candidate in Government and Public Administration, and becoming an Adjunct Professor of English at AU. She then became a professional lecturer in the Center for the Administration of Justice program, again at American University. She was a member of the sorority Phi Delta Gamma and was on American University's Educational Policy Board. Nettie Lou published numerous articles and studies on law enforcement and correctional institutions, edited a book on law enforcement and then wrote a book on the history of a parolee who later became the director of an offender program. Most proudly, after having been recognized by the Nixon Administration as one of the "most highly qualified women in the field of criminal justice," she fought for the right to be the first female "Special Justice" (magistrate) in Fairfax County, sworn in soon thereafter on February 26, 1973. She eventually went to work managing her husband's dental office for the remainder of her employment years, never losing her intelligence, quick wit, and sense of humor. An avid lover of all animals, she sadly left behind her three rescue "granddogs" when she passed on. She is predeceased by her husband Dr. Wissler, her beloved sisters Evelyn Price Knox and Opal Marie Price, as well as her "favorite" brother, Aubrey Lee Price. Nettie Lou is survived by her daughter Mina and son-in-law Joseph Yindra, son Jeff and daughter-in-law Rita, as well as step-daughter Monica Tomi Gripman and step-son Marc Gripman. Also saddened by her loss are her grandchildren Donald Michael Hunter, Robert Charles Yindra, William Jeffrey Carruth Jr., Kristina Elizabeth Carruth Dixon, and step-grandchildren Silvio Gripman-Rodriguez, Kaya Gripman-King and Clementine Gripman-Whistler. She had 4 great-grandchildren, Levi Carruth, Elijah Dixon, Willow Carruth, and Harper Dixon, and a step-great-grandchild Ruby Gripman. Her viewing is to be held at Money and King Funeral Home, 171 Maple Ave., Vienna VA on Friday March 9 from 6-8 PM. Her memorial service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1325 Scotts Run Rd., McLean, VA on Saturday, March 10 from 11 AM-12 PM.
