Richard Allen Scott
December 27, 1956 ~ December 4, 2017
Richard A. Scott, 60, of Falls Church, died unexpectedly Monday, December 4, at home. Richard, who grew up in Arlington, Virginia worked for Arlington County Government for 37.65 years as a social worker, most recently with the Job Avenue program as an Employment Specialist.
Born December 27, 1956 in Illinois, Richard was the only child of Bill and Doris K Scott (both deceased). He was a 1975 graduate of Washington-Lee High School and earned his BS degree in 1979 from American University. While at AU he was inducted into Pi Alpha Alpha, the National Honorary Society due to his high academic achievement and was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity.
He loved making creations in the kitchen and spending time outdoors – gardening, hiking, camping, bicycling and taking long rides on his Harley-Davidson.
Richard is survived by his two daughters Sydney and Samantha.
A visitation will be held at Money and King Funeral Home in Vienna on Tuesday, December 19th from 3-5pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Richard’s memory to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (888-999-NAMI) and/or Friends of Clarendon House, Inc at 2120 Washington Blvd, 2nd Floor, Arlington VA 22204.

Richard, Your tireless work in the community has left an unforgettable mark. You are certainly missed.
I recently read about the loss of your dear loved one. Although we are not acquainted personally, please accept my condolences. Losing a dear loved one can leave a very empty space in one’s life. Please find strength, hope, and comfort in the God of Comfort (2 Corinthians 1:3, 4).
You were a great guy and a friend, and will be missed. Rest in Peace.
Rick, (yes, as I told you, you will always be Rick to me since I knew you from way back when) I will always have fond memories of the years of camaraderie all of us shared at DHS Social Services in our youth as we started our Arlington County careers in the 70’s. All the happy hours, parties, weddings, outdoor adventures, were such fun, building a social cohesiveness that strengthened good team work within DHS. Enjoyed picking up our friendship once again in BHD, as your insight into the world situation and Arlington work culture was always right on point, as well as amusing, and enlightening. I wish I could have talked you into retiring too when I did last year so you could have enjoyed more of your life outside of the office, but then your clients would have missed the benefit of your care and concern, and dedication in supporting and improving their lives. Rest in peace old friend .
My thoughts and prayers are with Richard’s family. We worked together at BHD in Arlington County for 5 years and were next door office neighbors. Richard enjoyed discussing his daughters with pride, current events and sharing some really good recipes. Richard cared about the clients at Job Avenue and I know many benefited from his good work.
