Robert Louis Huekels, 59, a resident of Alexandria, Va., passed away on Monday, September 18, 2017 at Fairfax Hospital. He is survived by his sister, Karen Huekels, his aunts and uncle,
Lucinda Manarin and Louis and Joann Manarin. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Roland and Lorraine Huekels. A graduate of Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Robert worked for DynCorp International as an aircraft mechanic at Andrews AFB.
A memorial service will be held at Calvary Hill Baptist Church, 9301 Little River Turnpike, Fairfax, Va 22031 on Tuesday, September 26th at 11:30 AM. His family will receive friends after the memorial service during a light reception. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation or the Washington Regional Transplant Community.

We were shocked and saddened to hear the news about Robert. Robert and his sister, Karen, are my first cousins and I have fond memories of the two of them playing with my two older children, Rick and Molly. I only encountered Robert through our high school class reunions. I was sad to not have him join us for our 40th gathering. It was always a pleasant encounter. It was something about that face that was so special. Here are some photos from our 30th reunion and his 1975 yearbook photo. You will have to ask his close buddies why he didn’t show up for picture day.
Robert you are looking great in your new wings. I know he will be missed by his family and friends.
From Lafayette Elementary on Robert was the best friend anybody could ask for. He will never be forgotten. R.I.P. Rob you are in a better place.
