Roberta Allene Clay (Russell), 69 took her final rest on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 1:50 am at Medstar Washington Hospital, Washington, DC.
Roberta and her twin, Rosalind were born to the late Virginia May Russell and Alexander Russell Sr. on February 24, 1948 in Louisville, Kentucky. She graduated from Eastern High School in Middletown, KY and attended Spaulding College, Louisville, KY.
Roberta was preceded in death by her parents Alexander and Virginia Russell, two brothers, Dennis Jerome Russell and Alexander Russell, Jr.; and her life partner, Charles D. Mallory, Sr. She is survived by her children Tabetha, Shelly, Robert, Ebony, and Randy; grandchildren: Jamie, Jennifer, Kimberly, Raven, Trey, Kiona (Cameron), Imani (Leo), Jahneilah, Rashaan; great grandchildren: Shaneice, Melvin, Cameron Jr. Aiden, and Caleb; her siblings Rosalind, George (Donna), Ray (Kathy), Archie (Gretchen) and Paula; her niece’s Cyria (Arnold) with whom she had a special bond, Jennifer, Gilandra, Brianna and Gavonda and a nephews Ray, Nicholas, Milton and Bernard.
Roberta was baptized at Pilgrim Baptist Church, Middletown, KY where she served in the Usher Ministry and faithfully attended Sunday School. She was member of the Voices of Faith Choir and The Crusaders, a youth bible ministry.
Roberta’s career including positions in Dietary Nutrition, Hospitality and Building Services with St. Anthony’s Hospital, Louisville, KY; Susquehanna Nursing/Rehabilitation Center, Harrisburg, PA; Herndon High School, Herndon, VA; Langton Hughes Elementary School, Reston, VA; Buzz Aldrin Elementary School; Tall Oaks Nursing Home, Reston, VA and Prince William Hospital, Manassas, VA.
Roberta left an unforgettable positive impact on everyone she met through her genuinely compassionate nature. Her true calling was making others happy through many years of volunteer work at Hospitals, Food Banks and Senior Centers. Known as “Nina”, by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was always there to give tough love, hugs/kisses and special gifts specific to each child. Nina enjoyed family gatherings, whether planned or impromptu she was happy when everyone came together to sing, eat, play cards and reminisce about ‘old times’.
Relatives and friends are invited to Roberta's Life Celebration at Money & King Funeral Home, 171 W. Maple Ave., Vienna, VA on Friday, September 22 from 6-8 PM. A funeral service will be held at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 22870 Dominion Lane, Sterling, VA 20166 on Saturday, September 23 at 10 AM. Visitation will start in the church at 9 AM. Interment will follow at Chestnut Grove Cemetery.

I want to extend my condolences to Ebony and her family. Knowing Ebony and her wonderful spirit, I know Ms. Clay had to be amazing – an angel on earth because Ebony is just that. Please know you’re in the thoughts and prayers of Susan and Garrett Noell. To encourage you and your family, we shall all meet again and we’ll see our mothers, and loved ones, now no longer in pain as God tells us in Corinthians 15:
Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

My deepest sympathies to the entire family and all her friends. Roberta was a classmate who, along with Rosalind, stood out to me as sweet, friendly, warmhearted girls. It’s been a long time since graduation, but some people stay in your memory and Roberta was one. Rest in Peace, dear girl. I know you will be missed.

Rest In Peace my Childhood friend. My memories of you, of us is deep rooted into my heart. I will always remember us as little girls playing on the streets of the “baby farm ” in Griffyyown Kentucky. My heart can still hear your voice, and see your beautiful smile. Rest well Roberta. Rest well.

“Earth has no sorrow, that heaven cannot heal.” My sincere condolences to Ebony and family as they mourn the loss of Ms. Clay. It was a blessing and a pleasure to have met her and experience her smile and hugs. I loved her love for her grandson Rashaan and how pleasant she was to me and my family. She is definitely with angels and resting peacefully. May God comfort and strengthen you in the days ahead.
I remember, sometime back in the 70s, when Rosiland & Roberta sang “How Great Thou Art” as a duet at Pilgrim Baptist Church during a program lead by the Young Adults (as Rev. Herd called them). Both sang alto with The Voices of Faith choir. Of course they gave a wonderful performance.
To the family of dear Roberta, I wish to express my sincere condolences during this most difficult time. The Bible promises that in the future our greatest enemy death will be gone forever! Please find comfort and hope in that promise. (Revelation 21:3-4)
