Clara Sherman Mercado

Clara Lillian Sherman Mercado died on March 27, 2017 in Arlington, Virginia of natural causes surrounded by family. Clara was born on April 1, 1917 in Mansfield, MA and grew up in Floral Park, NY. She obtained degrees from William Smith College and Eastern Baptist Seminary. In 1941 Clara began serving as an American Baptist Missionary in Barranquitas, PR where she met Luis Fidel Mercado. The two married on September 1, 1947 in Goshen, IN and had 6 children. Clara was a teacher, principal, and nurse, as well as the constant editor of her husband's writings as a minister and theologian. Clara was predeceased by her husband, and her sons Sammy and Carlos. She leaves 4 children, 4 nieces, 12 grandchildren, and 15 greatgrandchildren. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. on April 1, 2017 at Ravensworth Baptist Church, Annandale, VA with funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Lewinsville Presbyterian Church, McLean, VA. Memorial contributions may be made to Ravensworth Baptist Church Missions Commission.
