Charles Addison Garland (Chuck), of Reston, died peacefully on June 24, 2015 surrounded by his loving and cherished wife, Jacquie, and his sons, Derek and Todd. Chuck was 63.

Chuck was born on June 29, 1951 in Pittsburgh, raised in nearby Crescent Township, and graduated from Moon High School. At Moon, he lettered in football and track, earning the title "Moon's Fastest Human." He received a B.A. in History from Westminster College and a Master's in Education from Marymount University.

He was a marksman and member of the Secret Service's elite Countersniper Support Unit. He also taught history and social studies at Anacostia High School in Washington, DC. During summers, he coached football and basketball.

Chuck is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 41 years, Jacquie; his mother, Margie; sister, Andrea; and brother, Jim; sons, Derek and Todd; loving daughters-in-law Elizabeth and Katie; and five grandchildren: Thomas, James, Luke, Rylie, and Cooper.

Most of all, Chuck loved his family and was especially dedicated to Jacquie and their five grandchildren. He also demonstrated tremendous compassion for those in need as a teacher at Anacostia High School and as a Stephen Minister counseling individuals through times of crisis.

Chuck's memorial service will be at Vienna Presbyterian Church, 124 Park St. NE, Vienna, VA, 22180 Tuesday, July 14, at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Capital Caring, 2900 Telstar Court, Falls Church, VA 22042 or Vienna Presbyterian Church's "Stephen Ministry" Program.

  2. My deepest condolences to the Garland family on the loss of Chuck. Our families were long-time friends from Greystone Church – the Garlands sat in front of us every Sunday. I remember being so impressed when Chuck joined the Secret Service. Please tell Margie that Barbara, David and Diane Northrop send our love and prayers in this time of sorrow.
