On the evening of 16 July, due to natural causes, Dad went home to be with the Lord Jesus. Surrounded by loving family he passed peacefully from his home of 52 years in Vienna, VA. Frank was born the eldest of three sons to Elbert and Kathleen in Sheffield, AL on November 9, 1929. Born the son of a railroad man, Frank cherished the memories of moving around the south and eventually settled in Ashville, NC. After graduating high school, he moved to the Washington area in 1946 where he met his wife Lois of 53 years. He loved his career with the CIA where he loyally served for 38 years. After retirement he remained the best of friends with many co-workers. Giving freely of himself he volunteered in the community and his church. He served on the Historic Vienna Board and played the role of Santa Claus for many years at the Freeman Store. He was instrumental in introducing kid's softball to Vienna, which was a reflection of his love for baseball. Dad enjoyed Bluegrass Music. Stories of trains, life's hardships and victories, and love of God were lyrics he loved to dwell on. A faithful member of the Capital Baptist Church, he looked forward to his weekly bible study. Dad lived by example, impacting many lives. With God's promise we are rejoicing in his departure, although he will be dearly missed.
Dad was preceded in death by wife Lois and daughter Susan. He is survived by: his children Linda Wilborn (Thom), Kathy Robinson (Johnny), Vicki Bell (Tom), and Billy Lancaster (Melanie); his grandchildren Susan Wright, Franklin and Jim Nichols, Amy Bolin, Katy DeCarli, Vicki Moe, Johnny and Davey Robinson, Tommy, Matt, and Josh Bell, Cindy, Sara, and Billy Lancaster; and 10 great grandchildren.

How very sorry we were to hear of the passing of our beloved cousin, Franklin. What a guy he was–always smiling and delighted to see you. He was a real sweetheart, and I so enjoyed corresponding with him or chatting with him on occasion over the phone. He was the best example of what a true Christian could be. We’ve lost a bright light in our family, but he will always be remembered fondly by all of us. I know I speak for Gary and Brenda as well. From the “Grandles,” Gary, Sharon, and Brenda with love.
Frank was one of my first supervisors when I started working. He was such a lovely man and always had a smile on his face. I will cherish our time working together. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.
Mr. Lancaster was such a sweet loving kind man of God. I truly enjoyed seeing him at the family events at his daughter’s and my brother’s home (Tom and Vicki Bell) He will truly be missed. It is always so hard to lose a parent however we have assurance he is no longer in pain and Heaven gained another Angel to watch over the entire Lancaster family and then some knowing Mr. Lancaster. He will truly be missed by not only his family but all the others he touched though out the years.
Working for and with Frank was definitely a part of my career that I will always remember with kindness and love. Frank was such a wonderful person who always had a kind word and smile for you. We kept in touch for many years through calls, notes and cards. I will miss you Frank. Rest in peace. Deepest sympathy, love and prayers to the family. Love, Dolores Kaloz
Frank was a one-of-a kind type of guy that those of us who had the pleasure to know him enriched our lives with his warmth and kindness. My deepest sympathy and prayers to his family.
Frank was a dear neighbor. I shall miss him. Such a kind person.
Frank Lancaster and I worked together at Patrick Henry Library in Vienna. He was a professional and always had words of encouragement for his co-workers. My husband and I enjoyed talking with Frank about our shared love, Blue Grass Music. Cathy and Ed Cissel

Wanted to send a word in honor of Franklin. I did not know him except through my cousin Sharon Grandle. I am the daughter of Marvin and Merle Moore, Luray and a niece of Uncle Edwin and Lois..family is family and feeling a loss still hurts. God Bless you all Marlene Moore Pooler

Frank was a wonderful and key fellow employee at NPIC. He was always sincere and thorough and a delight to deal with. I also enjoyed running into Frank when he was serving as a docent for Vienna as a rail stop during the Civil War. He will be missed.
