Mary Walter
April 19, 1933 ~ May 25, 2011
Mary Mathilda "Tillie" Walter, (age 78) quietly passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2011 after a prolonged illness. A North Carolina native, Tillie was born on April 19, 1933 in Newton, NC, where she was raised and was a long time resident of Georgetown, DC and Vienna, VA. She spent her undergraduate days studying Spanish at Duke University. Tillie became a linguist with the CIA retiring in 1991 after a full career. Tillie was an avid Redskins and Wizards fan. She was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed spending time with family and friends at Rehoboth Beach.
Her husband, the late John E. Walter, predeceased Tillie. She is survived by her stepsons; James (Paula), Thomas (MaureenBurke) and Robert (Arlene), her grandchildren; the late Karen Campbell, Jonathan Walter, James Walter, Christopher Walter, Burke Ariel Walter and her great grandson, Nicholas Campbell.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her honor to the Alzheimer's Foundation or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
