Elizabeth Beatrice Saranillas

Elizabeth Beatrice Saranillas (Betty), 88, of Sterling, VA, passed away on March 16, 2022. She resided in Sterling, VA and is survived by her children, Gwenda Saranillas, Gina Frost, Lisa Saranillas, and James (Jimmy) Saranillas Jr. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Jennifer Shipley and Ashley Frost, and great-granddaughter, Natalie Shipley. She is also survived by her sister, Jeanean Martin, and her brothers, David Songco and Pascual Songco Jr. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, James Saranillas Sr., her parents Beatrice Songco and Pascual Songco, and her sister, Grace Walther.
Betty was born in Baltimore, MD on August 22, 1933. She met her husband and soul-mate, Jimmy, at a dance when they were 16 years old. Betty later graduated high school and became a secretary for two years working for the government at the Library of Congress, and then soon became a stay-at-home mom. She happily raised her four children and one granddaughter.
Betty was known as a sweet, loving, beautiful, witty, generous, and kind soul. She spread love, joy, and laughter to everyone. She even earned the nickname “Betty Boop”. She was a force and pillar in our big boisterous family. A true matriarch. She cared deeply for all her loved ones and made it known every chance she’d get. Her family, extended family, and close friends were her world. She prioritized family gatherings and never missed the opportunity to celebrate milestones of all kinds. She cherished being together.
Betty always gave her time generously to everyone. She lovingly drove her kids to school everyday, dance team practice and Poms, sports, part-time jobs. She helped with homework, and attended all school events and activities. She assisted and drove her mother and mother-in-law (who didn’t drive), to doctor appointments, hair appointments, and errands such as grabbing groceries and carry out meals for them. She was always there for her loved ones, and enjoyed every minute of it. She lived in the way of Jesus, serving others.
Betty loved life, and found joy in the simple things. She did not covet material things, and was perfectly happy with a good meal and good company. Betty was easy going and fun to be around, and often was the life of the party with her jokes and family stories. Her favorite things to do were eating out, going to the movies, to the beach, dancing, listening to music, talking on the phone, playing the lottery and Bingo, and of course spending time with her loved ones. Her favorite foods were sweets, crabs, chicken and dumplings, crab cakes and rice.
She was a person of deep faith in God, never complained, and always felt blessed even through life’s challenges. Christmas was her favorite holiday. She faithfully prayed every day, especially for those in need of help and reminded others they should do the same. She will be deeply missed and always in our hearts forever.
