Landon "Tom" Thomas King

landon
Landon Thomas (Tom) King of Stuart, FL, and Vienna, VA, died suddenly in Stuart, FL, on February 19, 2023, with his wife by his side. Tom was born July 11, 1937, in Belfry, KY. He was a Professional Engineer (Electrical), a Management Consultant and author of a professional book used for training management consultants (Problem Solving in a Project Environment, published by John Wiley & Sons). His book weaves together qualitative and quantitative techniques proven successful on hundreds of projects to provide one of the most comprehensive conceptual overviews of study projects. (He was often referred to as a gental brainiact.)

Tom met his wife, Ginger, at their country club in Vienna, VA, where they were both members and where they were fondly referred to as “the Ken and Barbie of Westwood!” After marrying in 1972, they settled in Vienna where they spent most of their fun time at Westwood County Club and where he served two terms on the Board of Directors, including one term as Treasurer. In 2004, they became residents of sunny Florida while keeping their Virginia home as their summer home. They happily celebrated their 50th Anniversary in early December 2022.

Tom earned a B.S. Degree in Engineering from the University of Kentucky and an MBA at Purdue University. He had a successful career designing communications systems in Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and in the continental U.S (including Las Vegas where he managed systems contracts for the then Atomic Energy Commission). He was a management consultant for Arthur Young and Company when it was one of the “Big 8” Public Accounting Firms. He did extensive consulting and managed multiple contracts in Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Kuwait and was President of several subsidiaries of international companies as well as his own company, Systems and Environmental Analysis, Inc.

For most of Tom’s adult life, he generously supported multiple charities. In his retirement years, he was extremely active in and devoted to supporting Palm City Presbyterian Church and Vienna Presbyterian Church. He was tickled and honored when he was once designated the “Angel of the Month” at Palm City Presbytarian.

Tom loved Golf, had a very low single digit handicap for many years and took pleasure in helping others improve their golf game or teaching little ones to throw a curve ball. He also enjoyed tennis and table tennis and was awarded several table tennis trophies in college. As well, he enjoyed reading about and discussing global business, science and technology issues and problems. And anyone who knew him, regarded him as a kind, caring and fair individual, as well as a true gentleman.

He will be sorely missed by those in his churches, his clubs, and his communities. And he will remain heavily anchored in the hearts of his devoted wife and dozens of loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who loved their “Uncle Tom.” He loved them back.
