Ronald Mathew Cinal

July 15, 1939 ~ October 12, 2011
RONALD MATHEW CINAL
(Age 72)
Ronald Mathew Cinal, of Reston, VA passed unexpectedly and peacefully at his home on Wednesday, October 12, 2011. Ron was born on July 15, 1939 in Chicago, IL to Matthew and Harriet Cinal. He was the beloved husband of 48 years of Marilyn Cinal; loving father of Mary and her husband Matt Bombard of Michigan and Donna McComber and her husband Stephen Gingras of Reston, VA; brother of Delores and her husband Ed Sidor of Naples, FL; adored and cherished grandfather of Matt and Madelaine Bombard and Haley McComber; and kind friend to all those who knew him.
Ron graduated from Holy Trinity High School in Chicago before attending college at St. Edward's University in Austin, TX. After graduation, Ron was commissioned as a US Naval officer and served on active duty until 1965, eventually reaching the rank of Lieutenant Commander while serving in the Navy Reserve. After leaving the Navy, Ron served as an operations officer with the Central Intelligence Agency for 28 years, including overseas tours in Moscow, Leningrad, Nairobi, Jakarta, Thessaloniki, and Stuttgart, returning home to Reston between each tour. After retirement, Ron embarked on a career as a tax adviser with H&R Block, where he worked as a tireless advocate for his clients. For the last ten years, Ron has also been a dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer with the Friends of the Reston Regional Library. Anyone who attended their book sales regularly knew his smile, infectious laugh, and kind and helpful nature. The roles that he embraced the most firmly, however, were those of husband, father, grandfather, and friend, which he performed as he did with all things in life with total commitment, boundless joy, and love. To his close family, Ron was the moon and the stars, and they were his.
Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Friends of the Reston Regional Library (restonfriends.blogspot.com).

We have wonderful memories of our times with you here and overseas. We love you and will miss you.
Even though our family did not know Ron for very long, it was very obvious to everyone that he was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend to all that enjoyed his company. We will pray for all of you, his loved ones, at this very difficult time.
Dear Marilyn and family, Sending love and sympathy at this time of grief. The tribute you wrote for Ron is one of the most beautiful I have ever read. He was truly an exceptional man and I know he will be greatly missed.
Dear Aunt Marilyn, Mary and Donna; I think you all know of the special relationship I had with your Husband, Father and my Uncle Ron. You may not remember but at my birth he was was asked and responded yes to being my Godfather when I was baptized. Both Aunt Marilyn and Uncle Ron always treated me as a son and the fun we had together was endless. I will surely miss him. I still cherish his special dancing cigarette music box which he gave to my Grandmother and Grandfather when he came back from a trip to New York. Of course I still have the lower numbered shingle from Mt Vernon because he sweet talked the sales girl into making sure the one he purchased was the lowest numbered piece available. He held that over my head for a while until he finally switched the lower numbered shingle for mine. I will miss the the cleaver banter in our conversations that we shared many an evening late into the night. I will miss him greatly! Love, Scott, Kim & Nick
Our nation has lost a great patriot, his family a wonderful father and husband, his friends a great friend. Ron was a man with whom I had great respect and admiration. Ron – you have earned your rest – God Bless.
Marilyn, Mary and Donna My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this tough time. Ron was such a kind and caring person and I feel very fortunate to have known him. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
marikay and family, i am so sorry for your loss
I am very glad we had such a good time together on the cruise. I guess it goes to show that one has to enjoy the time that we have. Needless to say I am still in shock.
Marikay and Family, Please accept my condolences on your loss and know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. Robin
I knew Ron from the Reston Library book sales. He was always ready to joke around, but was always ready to help whomever needed it. It sounds like that’s how he lived his whole life. I’m sorry I won’t get to work with him any more, but I appreciate the time I spent with him. I’m sure he’ll be missed greatly by all who were a part of his life.
Dear Marilyn and family, My heart goes out to you. I will never forget spending Christmas with you in Thessaloniki. You and Ron were so generous and welcoming. I loved Ron’s humor and his interesting stories. I hope your memories bring you comfort.
Dear Marily and Family, I was so sorry to read of Ron’s passing in this morning’s Post. I have fond memories of my trips to Nairobi and your generosity to me. We took some neat trips to the Game Parks. Ron was a fine man and a great patriot. My sympathies to you and your family. Regards. Chuck Miller

Marilyn, The news of Ron’s passing away came as a total shock. I would have never survived the challenges in my job, if it was not for his constant encouragement, motivation and warmheartedness in facing the odds with equanimity. To me he was truly a noble soul whose friendship and elan I shall never forget. Ron touched one’s innards with his infectious laughter, majestic poise, wit and generosity. He stood tall among his peers and backed his team as none ever do. Ron’s love for his family was explicit. This easily transcended to his work team. Those who worked with him looked to him in trying moments and he never failed any. We were fortunate to have experienced his great and uncommon attributes of leadership with firm but human touch. He will be missed by us all. We stand in prayer today seeking from the Almighty Lord strength for you and your family to bear this loss with fortitude. Please accept our condolences in this hour of your grief. Upjit
Dear Marilyn and Family, I have known Ron for many years through our work at H&R Block. Over those years, I have worked for many office managers, some good, some not so good. Ron was the best. His dedication, enthusiasm, and unyielding support for his preparers made their job easier and fun. We will all miss Ron but wil always carry fond memories of him in our hearts.
I worked for Ron for years, he was an amazing man who I was proud to call my friend. He is also on a very short list of men I admire & always looked up to because you could always count on Ron no matter what. He truly embodied the term “great man”. I will miss him so much.
We think the world of Ron. He was great boss and a great person. He was the epitome of a boss who was always there for anyone who needed him; at the office or home. We loved Ron like a family member.
Dearest Marilyn and Family,Bud and I are truely sorry for your lost, please know you are in our hearts and prayers.
Dear Marilyn and Family, I was so sorry to hear about Ron’s death. It was a pleasure to work with him at the library sales. He was always such a gentleman.
Dear Marilyn…On the way to his therapy today, John was unusually quiet; just as we got there, he told me the news. We are so sad and shocked for your family. We are also extremely gratified that we got a chance to re-connect with him, and meet you, at the 50th Reunion of the St. Edward’s Class of 1960. What a great personality…we are sorry we won’t see him at the 55th. Thinking of you…Beverly and John Sullivan
My deepest sympathy to you. May God bless you today and always. Love, Jen

Dear Mrs. Cinal and Family, I was also a Chicagoan who went to Texas to go to St. Ed’s, so Ron, who was a year ahead of me, was a good friend and a great help during our years there. I was so happy to catch up with him at his 50th reunion, and to learn of the very interesting lives you’ve had together. He will be remembered. Rest in peace, Bob Kamm
