Margaret Anne Christmas Meagher (90)

Passed away peacefully on May 25, 2016 at The Virginian Retirement Community in Fairfax, Va. where she had lived for four years. Her husband Edward preceded her in death in 1988, as did her two sisters, Merrie Patch and Jeannette Schultz. She is survived by her loving children Thomas J. Meagher of Sacramento, CA and Anne Meagher-Cook of Annandale, VA.

Born in Adrian, Michigan, she graduated from the University of Michigan in 1946 and became a research analyst at the U.S. Department of State. In 1950 she married Edward J. Meagher, an FBI special agent. He later joined USAID and she accompanied him to posts in Pakistan, Panama, and Korea. They enjoyed the overseas lifestyle and traveled extensively throughout those regions. She taught elementary school and tutored English both here and abroad. They settled in Arlington, where she enjoyed a close knit community of friends and neighbors. She was a mentor and support to many individuals. She was an active volunteer for numerous charities and political causes. She was an outstanding hostess and enjoyed a lively political debate. She made fast friends of many ages, nationalities, and walks of life. After her husband's passing, she enjoyed fifteen years of travel and adventures with her loving companion, Fred Altman.

A memorial service will be held at her church, Trinity Episcopal, in Arlington, VA at a future date.
