ALBERT MILO BURGER 09/13/37 - 07/15/17
After suffering a broken hip and various medical
complications, Skip died peacefully at home in our
sunroom with his beloved garden in sight. With the help of
Hospice and the care of our wonderful helpers, Teresa
Robles and Ruth Rios, he was able to spend his last days
comfortably and without pain.
In his almost 80 years, Skip enjoyed a good life. He grew
up in a cozy home in Wassaic, New York with his parents
Dorothy and Ralph and his beloved Granny. He and his
younger brother Ken enjoyed being surrounded by dogs
and horses. That led to Skip’s lifelong love of animals. In
our first home, a 3-room apartment at Michigan State
University where pets were NOT allowed, he came home
one day with a guinea pig. By the time we left, four years
later, we had a 40 gallon tropical fish tank, a duckling and
16 guinea pigs! When he finished grad school and we
moved to Virginia, our first purchase was a wire fox terrier
named Muff. Over the years we went on to acquire eight
more dogs including our current, Buffy, a Shichon.
During Skip’s service in the Marine Corps he spent two
years in Saigon, Vietnam. That experience whetted his
appetite for travel. After college Skip was recruited by the
DIA and soon after was delighted to be transferred to the
U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia for a three year
stint. During that time we were able to travel to Hong
Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, and Nepal.
Before returning stateside, we visited Lebanon, Syria,
Turkey, Spain and Morocco. Later, a two year assignment
in Hawaii was followed by vacations on Caribbean islands
and many trips to our favorite Mexican town, Puerto
Vallarta.
In his later years, Skip took up fly fishing and was always
ready to take off for a few days in Pennsylvania or a
couple of weeks in Montana in search of the elusive trout.
At home, wherever that was, Skip’s greatest pleasure was
time spent in his garden. He loved flowers and took great
joy in growing them and showing them off to anyone who
came by.
Most of all, Skip loved his family and was so proud of
them: Jennifer and Ricardo, Pak and Saman, Andrea,
Christina, Sophie and little Jade !

Skip was a gentle soul and he was a great person that added so much to our family. I will always remember his smile. Love, Kelley “Patty” Trochan Carson

I have been Al’s mail carrier for the past 25 years. His stop was toward the end of my route and when ever he was out when I came by I could always expect and looked forward to a friendly wave and a smile, with occasional conversation. Even when passing on the road, and I always knew when the “WET FLY” mobile passed, I’d get a wave. Those gestures would always make the end of a long hard day more enjoyable. I’ll miss that but will remember them in the days now when I pass the house. Condolences to the family, and keep the memories alive, as I know there are plenty.
