Born in: Finale Emilia, Italy
Resided in: Vienna, Va

Luisa Maria (Micheli) Fasano of Vienna, VA passed away peacefully on November 11, 2023, after a year-long battle with Alzheimer’s. Luisa was a kind, generous, and loving mother, wife and friend. She dedicated her life to taking care of others. Known fondly by many as ‘Nonna’, Luisa will be deeplymissed.

Luisa was born in Finale Emilia, Italy on March 7, 1944, the youngest daughter of Fernando and Maria (Boetti) Micheli. She is preceded in death by her siblings Adriano, Teresa, Domenica (Mimma), Azzurra, Adalgisa (Isa), Ernesto, Leonardo (Pasquale) and Piero. Luisa grew up on Via Cavour in Rome, Italy and often recalled walking past the monuments of ancient Rome on her way to school and jobs at the Roman Opera House and as a dental assistant. She married Luciano Fasano in 1969 and moved to Avezzano, Italy for his work. Luisa was thrilled to become a mom to Maria Azzurra in 1971 and Massimiliano in 1972. Her life in Avezzano included Vespa rides with both kids to the corner market, socializing and playing tennis at the CAT Club, and making some of her closest life-long friends. Many other happy memories were made during annual month-long vacations at a family beach house in Porto St. Stefano, Tuscany.

Luisa and family moved to Vienna in 1980 for Luciano’s work. Although moving to the United States was challenging, Luisa found great meaning in caring for children- her own and the many local and Italian embassy families who considered her to be family. Becoming Nonna (grandmother) was her greatest joy, and taking care of those grandchildren gave her immense satisfaction.

She always expressed her generous love for family and friends through her wonderful meals, and they will be truly missed. She enjoyed regularly attending services at Our Lady of Good Counsel and occasionally at the Holy Rosary Church in Washington, DC. Although she became an American citizen in2001, a piece of her beautiful heart always remained in the Italy that she loved.

Luisa is survived by her husband Luciano, daughter Maria Azzurra and husband Ed, son Massimiliano and wife Luisa, grandchildren Paul, Roberto, Dylan, Nicole, and Sofia and many nieces and nephews in Italy.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on November 24, 2023, at Money & King Funeral Home in Vienna. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association https://www.alz.org/ or Capital Caring Health hospice https://www.capitalcaring.org/

  1. 💔forever Jessie, Lindsay and Shaun’s “Ta Ta”….we were so fortunate to have her enter our lives shortly after Lindsay was born and remain a staunch supporter! Family meant everything to Luisa was so kind and nurturing to all whom she met! I am forever grateful to her for loving all three of our children so very much and for continuing to be ever so proud of them! Life is so disappointingly short and my heartbreaks as I write this… God Bless Luisa and her family! We all have a very special angel to guide us and watch over us all! 💔

  5. Dear Maria and a family,
We are so truly sorry for the loss of your mom, we sending love and strength during this difficult time.
May her memory be a blessing.

At the rising sun and at its going down; We remember them.
At the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter; We remember them.
At the opening of the buds and in the rebirth of spring; We remember them.
At the blueness of the skies and in the warmth of summer; We remember them.
At the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of the autumn; We remember them.
At the beginning of the year and when it ends; We remember them.
As long as we live, they too will live, for they are now a part of us as We remember them.
When we are weary and in need of strength; We remember them.
When we are lost and sick at heart; We remember them.
When we have decisions that are difficult to make; We remember them.
When we have joy we crave to share; We remember them.
When we have achievements that are based on theirs; We remember them.
For as long as we live, they too will live, for they are now a part of us as, We remember them.

  6. So remember our wonderful times together in Avezzano in the 70s. RIP dear Lucia. You are in our prayer Lucky. Ciao.
