Charlene was my Aunt by marriage but she treated me as a nephew even after my wife (her niece)died. She was a wonderful lady that helped others and loved the Lord. She will be missed by everyone that ever met her.

Charlene Mae Krohn of Fairfax, Virginia passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025 at the age of 92, surrounded by friends.
She was born Charlene Mae Wild on March 24, 1933 in Memphis, Tennessee and grew up in Athens, Tennessee. She attended Carson- Newman College where she earned a degree in Business Administration. She worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority before moving to Washington, DC where she began her career as a civilian with the U.S. Department of the Navy. She retired from the Navy with over 20 years of service. After a short retirement, Charlene began a second career in administration with the Fairfax County Government. She worked there for over 20 years.
While working for the Navy, Charlene met her husband of 37 years, Harry. They were married on June 6, 1959. Harry passed away on August 27, 1996. Charlene was well known and well-loved in her neighborhood, church and community.
She volunteered for many years at Inova Fairfax Hospital, helping with administrative needs. She served in many volunteer and leadership roles at Fairfax Circle Church and was a committed member of the “Wednesday Morning Ladies Group.” In her neighborhood she was known by many of the children as “grandma.”
Before retiring from the Navy, Charlene was given an award for being a 100-gallon blood donor. This award is given to someone who has donated enough blood to reach the milestone of 100 gallons, which is equivalent to 800 pints. This requires a significant commitment and is a testament to a person’s dedication to helping others.
Charlene was generous with her resources. She gave financial support to many ministries and initiatives through her local church. She established the Harold J. and Charlene M. Krohn Endowed Scholarship Fund at Carson-Newman College, which provides for students’ tuition needs. And she established the Harold J. and Charlene M. Krohn Cancer Care Endowment at Inova Health System, which helps to pay medical
costs for those who cannot afford it.
She was a special lady who touched the lives of many and will be missed by all.
