Edward S. Shorkey (age 93)

On December 29, 2016, Edward Shorkey, a resident of Maple Grove Assisted Living at Ashby Ponds, Ashburn, Va, passed away peacefully. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Pauline Shorkey; daughters, Diane Myers of Davidson, NC (formerly of Arlington, Va), Jane Moncayo of Charlotte, NC and Kathy Jensen of Oakton, Va; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Ed started as a freshman at Kenyon College in 1941, graduating in 1947 after having served three years with the Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. Ed started his career in Mt. Vernon, Ohio and then with his family moved to New Canaan, CT., in 1963 where they lived for the next 44 years. He spent his career in flexible packaging, first in sales and then in management. He retired from American Can Company in 1990, but continued to work as a consultant for several more years. He was an active member of St. Marks Church in New Canaan, CT., and served on the vestry and in other capacities for many years. He was also a volunteer with the American Red Cross, as giving back to the community was a big part of who he was. A memorial service with family and friends will be held at St. Marks Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in Ed's name to Kenyon College, Gambier, OH, American Red Cross or St. Marks Church in New Canaan, CT.
