Kawkab J. Hanna

Kawkab Jamil Hanna was born on July 1,1935 in the city of Kirkuk in northern Iraq. She met her husband, Fahmi Afram Aljazrawi from Mosul, Iraq, and they married and started a family.

Kawkab and Fahmi had four children – Atheer, Sarab, Nabil, and Namer. Shortly after Atheer was born they moved to Baghdad for Fahmi’s work. This is where she raised her children with the help of her loving husband, Fahmi. Together, they had a beautiful marriage that lasted over 55 years.

Kawkab was a strong-willed woman, who loved her children and always fought for the best for them. Her children ended up going far away to America to attend school and work. Her opinion must have been heard !

Kawab was a devout member of the Chaldean Catholic Church and believed in the power of prayer. She was very happy to finally come to America herself so she could see her beloved sons and see the future she had always dreamed for them.

Kawkab was known for her cooking skills, especially for dolma and kibbeh. She kept an immaculate house, battling sandstorms and her children’s messes. She loved to read books and newspapers, but was not above some fun as she also enjoyed a game of cards, a chance at a slot machine, and gossip with her friends.

In addition to her children, Kawkab is survived by seven grandchildren – Sara, Victoria, Amanda, John, Alexander, Sophie, and Chloe. She had six great-grandchildren – Isaac, Naomi, Conner, Mackensie, Layan, Seif and Ezz.

Kawkab will be deeply missed by all that loved her, but will forever live in our hearts. Her sacrifices, of which there were many, have created so much for us all. May she rest in peace.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Society would be greatly appreciated and would have been greatly appreciated by Kawkab.

A celebration of Kawkab’s life will be held on Saturday, June 28th at CrystalView in Fairfax, VA.
