Linda Jayne Kelly

September 21, 1949 June 21, 2016

Linda was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and was the beloved daughter of Geraldine Louise Louer Gamble and William Dean Gamble each of whom preceded her death.

She is survived by her loving husband William M. Loughlin (Bill) of Annapolis Maryland, her son John Gentille of Charlotte, NC, her four grandchildren, twins Tristan and Isabella, twins Noah and Savannah, brother Mark Gamble of Gastonia, North Carolina, his wife Barb and their children Dean and Emily. She is also survived by Bill's son Stephen Loughlin, his wife Colleen and their daughter Molly of Hockessin, Delaware.

Linda was proud to be a graduate of Heidelberg High School in Heidelberg Germany and attended several class reunions over the years. She earned a BA in English from George Mason University where she was a founding member and vice president of the Chi Kappa Chapter of the Chi Omega sorority. She was named Who's Who among students in American Colleges and Universities and on the Dean's List of Distinguished Students throughout her college career. She was also the captain of the George Mason cheer-leading squad.

Linda followed in her father and grandfather's footsteps beginning a career in the custom home building industry. Her passion for homes and outgoing personality enabled her to quickly become an accomplished real estate agent winning numerous Agent of the Year and Major Achievement in Marketing Excellence (MAME) awards for selling new custom-built homes primarily for Miller and Smith, Van Metre Homes and D.R. Horton.

Linda loved to travel, both in the US and abroad and spend time with her family and friends. Geographical challenges did not keep her from visiting family/friends and celebrating special occasions and holidays. When not selling new homes Linda was passionate about her beloved Jack Russell terriers Daisy Mae, Bristol and Pippy.

As a daughter of a military officer the frequent transfers could make life difficult. However, Linda's endearing and contagious smile, compassion for others, kind-hearted nature, endless generosity and enthusiasm for life made it easy for her to meet people and make lifelong friends. She loved to laugh, joke and tell stories for hours on end and laugh some more.

  1. As with everyone, I’m sure, I was completely shocked to hear of Linda’s passing. She was the epitome of someone who loved life and enjoyed it every day. Her laugh was contagious and up lifting. Her smile the same. We only saw each other every few years at high school reunions or similar gatherings but it was always fun. I will really miss her. My condolences to her family, friends and all who knew her. Such a loss.

  2. Bill and family, I am so sorry for your loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers as I wish you peace, comfort, and healing.

  3. No words can describe the sorrow over losing such a lovely soul who was like a sister to me. Lindas smile and sense of humor was always present, she lit up a room each time she walked in. When she spoke with you, she made you feel like everything you were saying was important, and didnt forget to ask you about it again the next time you had a conversation. She was so many things to so many people, a Daughter, a Wife, a Mother, a Grandmother, a Sister , an Aunt, a Friend, an Employee, a Co-Worker, a devoted Pet Owner, and she took great pride and happiness being all of them. I will miss her dearly. My most sincere condolences to all who loved her.

  4. Linda was one of the warmest and sincerest people that I have ever had the pleasure to know. She loved to laugh and made everyone laugh right along with her. She would light up the room. Her loss will be felt by all who were lucky enough to have met her and spent time with her. My sincere condoliences to Bill and the entire family.

  5. Prayers are with you all. Reading her obituary reminded me of the chat we had at Trackside on what sorority Deven was going for. Always enjoyed conversations with Linda. Beautiful lady that loved her family ever so much. Thinking of you all. Love ya Mark.

  6. Although I didn’t know Linda vey well, I am so honored to have met her. I was amazed by her positive and generous spirit from the first moment I met her. I feel grateful that she adopted Bristol and gave him so much love. My heart goes all of her family and friends.

  7. Linda brightened a room by her shear presence. Her smile was infectious. She was always so kind and complimentary and we loved having her as part of our Christmas family. Our heart is sad for you all..we will continue to pray for all of you during this time. Hugs

  8. Aunt Linda….words cannot describe the influence you had on so many of us. You will forever be a part of our lives. I already miss your smile, laugh, and your positive outlook on each and every day. God truly gained a beautiful soul and we will all continue to make you proud here on earth and pray for all your loved ones. With all my love, Kira (and our handsome Jojo)

  9. I met Linda at Mason. I pledged her sorority and, boy, did she give the pledges a tough, but fun time running us ragged! All in fun! Then we became Chi Omega. We worked together as President and VP. My favorite memory is we both attended a fraternity party. I looked around and guess who was dancing in the tub of ice…Linda! She was one of a kind! The world lost one of the good ones!

  10. Oh sweet Linda…the one that bright the light, laughter and love back into Bill’s life! I will forever be grateful for the happiness you brought to him and the friendship we shared. How fun it was to share all grandchildren’s pictures and stories and our love for our dogs ( our other babies) You were a rare gem…that I am sure will keep sparkling for eternity. We miss you!

  11. Like so many others who loved Linda, I’m probably still in shock that she’s gone. Linda and I met in our 1st class in our 1st day of college at George Mason. We walked out of World History together talking non-stop, and our friendship continued until she left this world much too soon. We did some crazy things in college that drove our parents a bit nuts, but we all survived. We were in each others weddings and helped each other through our divorces. Even though we didn’t talk often recently, when we did, we picked up right where we’d left off, always in sync. Lynda was an amazing, loving, compassionate woman whom I was proud to call my best friend in college. My thoughts and prayers are with her family in their profound loss.

  12. John, I pray the love of God wraps you in his love and brings you peace during your journey of grief. Shirley Hazelton Staunton Capital, Inc

  13. Linda and I were sorority sisters at GMU, first in Lambda Tau Omega, then, when we went national as Chi Omega. I remember riding around in her VW bug, and my Mustang convertible. That smile, that laugh! She just mesmerized all who had the pleasure of her company. It was wonderful tonight seeing people I hadn’t seen in years, and meeting newer friends of Linda, who, of course, were wonderful! Thank you for the fun at Eddy V’s and peace to all of your family. What a gal!

  15. Linda was like a sister to me. My heartfelt prayers go out to Bill, John, Mark, Barb and all the grandchildren, I know Linda adored. Linda will be deeply missed by all. However, I know in my heart she would send this poem to comfort us. As I sit in heaven And watch you everyday I try to let you know with signs I never went away I hear you when you’re laughing And watch you as you sleep I even wrap my arms around you To calm you when you weep I feel you wish the pain away Begging to have me home So I try to send you signs So you know you’re not alone Don’t feel guilty that you have Life that was denied to me Heaven is truly beautiful Just you wait and see So live your life, laugh again Enjoy yourself, be free Then I will know with every breath You’ll be taking one for me… Carol Carlsen

  16. My Junior Prom Date in the Heidelberg Castle in 1967, my girlfriend, my Life Long Friend, I miss you Beautiful/Sweet Lady. Please watch over us and say hello to all those who have also passed way to young!!

  17. Elizabeth Zebley Truitt

Linda and I have been friends since we were 3 years old in Munich Germany. Our fathers were career Army officers and they and our mothers became best friends. Throughout the years the Gambles & the Zebleys kept in touch and sometimes, whether in Germany or the US, were stationed within a day’s drive of each other. Our families always got together. I’m sorry about Linda’s passing away, eight years ago.
