It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved parents, Max Hansford Walker and Susan McGuire Walker, both of whom passed away at their home in Northridge, California, and at the age of 87. Max and his cherished wife Susan would have been married 70 years on May 28, 2025. High school sweethearts, they started their married life together at age 17 and enjoyed a life of travel and living overseas.

Susan Phyllis (McGuire) Walker, devoted wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 25, 2025. Susan was the youngest child born to Ollie and Ora (Caudill) McGuire on December 16, 1937 in Boyd County. Her brother Elmer McGuire and sister Billie Jean Stevens preceded her in death. Susan, her husband Max, and their five children lived all over the world as a U.S. Air Force family. Despite their far-flung travels, their ties to Kentucky endured.

Six weeks after his wife’s death, Max Hansford Walker passed away on May 4, 2025. Max was the eldest of five children born to Harry and Madeline (Risner) Walker on February 24, 1938 in Ethyl, West Virginia. He is survived by his youngest brother Ronald of Boyd County. Max’s other siblings Russell, Kenneth, and Jacqueline preceded him in death. The Walker family are long time residents of Boyd County, Kentucky. (Cannonsburg)

After serving in the Kentucky National Guard, Max joined the United States Air Force (USAF) in March 1955 and achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant earning numerous service medals and commendations. He served in Southeast Asia, Europe and at multiple bases in the United States retiring in September 1987. Max earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland and later a MBA from Golden Gate University.

Max joined Hughes Aircraft Company in Los Angeles after retirement from the USAF and the couple made their final home in Northridge, California.

Max and Susan are survived by four of their five children, Gina, Tania (Chris), Mark (Debra), and David. Their youngest son Joseph passed away in 1987. Max and Susan were proud grandparents to Rachel, Elinor, Sarah, Rebekah, Anna, Elizabeth and Adam.

Funeral and burial arrangements are being finalized.
