Michael John Mahoney, Jr, 84, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2022, in his final hours of life, Mike had at his side the loving presence of his wife, five children, daughter in law, and several of his grandchildren.

Mike’s devotion to his wife of 62 years and five children was paramount above all other matters in life. When push came to shove, all would agree, Mike would be there for those he loved. In the peaks of life or in times of sorrow, he was an active listener capable of offering profound advice and support. It was his utmost importance to instill in his children morals, values, faith, integrity, and a solid work ethic; attributes he possessed in his life from an early age until his peaceful passing.

When he desired reprieve from a hectic life in Northern Virginia, his wife and children cherished days spent at their home in Lake Sunapee, New Hampshire. A lifestyle he created to offer his family an opportunity to appreciate the outdoors, learning how to water ski, canoe, fish, sail, and ski the local slopes. Throughout his life, Mike, an avid outdoorsman, could be found with a fishing pole in hand navigating a stream in his favorite spots across New England. In more recent years, his passions shifted to watching his grandchildren’s sporting events, feeding the birds at Riverbend park, and enjoying a mocha latte and oatmeal among the kind staff at The Old Brogue.

To know Mike is to appreciate his art of storytelling. He always had a memory to share, with a captivating hook to draw in the attention of a grandchild, one of his children, a work colleague, his fishing buddy cousin, or a patient wife, most of which were true and occasionally a bit of a stretch, but with full respect, his audience attentive because of our love for him.

Mike’s life achievements extended beyond a devoted marriage and raising children. He attended Georgetown University and graduated from the School Of Foreign Service. He worked as a Capitol Hill elevator operator and then later a Capitol Policeman to pay for his education. Over these years is where he would meet his wife Pat. He held positions in leading transportation engineering projects which took him and Pat to Maine, New York, and Puerto Rico. While in Puerto Rico he was responsible for designing and building infrastructure and roadway systems. His passion soon turned to Information Technology where he built a successful career, Mike was the founder and CEO of Applied Interactive Sciences as well as Partner in QMA Info Tech. His long career in IT allowed for the ability to market facial recognition and digital fingerprinting software. He had many successful contracts with various commercial and government organizations. Throughout Mike’s career he received awards and recognition highlighting his intent to deliver the best of the best solutions for his customers. He cherished his business partners, colleagues and customer relationships. Mike was the kind of businessman that would make a deal on his word, a handshake, or even on a napkin, and ensure both parties stuck to it.
