Times were very difficult after WWII. So, as a young girl, she moved away from her family and hometown to become a seamstress in Athens. On her way to work one day, she was noticed by a young man who would soon enough become her husband. Alexandra and John married on December 14, 1947, and by 1959 had moved to Sparta with their 2 children.

Her entire life was devoted to her family and her faith. She was the consummate wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother and friend. In 1969, she and her son moved to the United States to be reunited with her husband and daughter. She settled in Silver Spring, Maryland, and finally in Annandale, Virginia. Along the way, she helped raise her 4 grandchildren and 2 of her 8 great-grandchildren.

Alexandra made friends wherever she went. Always a lady and always caring. Her home was always filled with love and lessons. She was a mother to many! Alexandra was an active member within Saint Katherine for many years always working the festivals and was known to be a constant figure at the ‘loukoumades’ alongside her husband and many friends now gone.

  1. My Yiayia Alexandra was the epitome of love. May she fly like a beautiful bird into the arms of my Pappou Yianni, the love of her life; and, may she be the beautiful, young, fun-loving young woman he fell head-over-heels in love with. My heart is broken, yet, full of love. I will miss you. We will all miss you. Watch over us and protect us. I Love You forever and always! – Sophia
