Anthony V. DeConcilis, D.D.S.

Anthony quietly left his loving family and friends on Tuesday, March 12, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, an older sister, Rose M. Barnes (G.W.) and older brother Frank J. DeConcilis (Emily). Survivors are daughter Theresa M. Chandler (William), Martin A. DeConcilis (Kathleen) and two granddaughters Jessica Chandler and Alexis DeConcilis, whom he adored. He derived great pleasure in having large gatherings at his home where the centerpiece was the food. This was especially true at the holidays where many traditional Italian dishes were prepared from recipes handed down through the family. His main hobbies were golf, bird hunting and fishing. He was a member of Kenwood Golf and Country Club in Bethesda, MD in the 1950s and then a founding member at Westwood Golf and Country Club in Vienna, VA from 1962 until his death.

Anthony (Tony) was born to Luigi and Marie DeConcilis on October 11, 1923 in Uniontown, PA. He was pre-dental studies at St. Vincent College in Latrobe, PA. After graduating from St. Vincent, he was accepted into the Dental School of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. He was in the first group to serve active duty under the Navy, V-12 Program. At graduation, he received his degree in Dentistry D.D.S, a commission as Lt J.G. in the Navy and his first orders were as a dentist in the Navy Dental Corps. His first stop was at Naval Operating Base (NOB) in Norfolk, VA and served on the USS Battleship Washington (BB-56). He completed his service at the dental clinic attached to the Navy Yard in Brooklyn, NY.

After leaving the Navy, he spent one year as a resident with the Veterans Administration in Washington, D.C. It was there that he met and married Sarah Corinne Martin in January 1958 and were happily married for 47 years. Sarah passed away July 4, 2005. In his early years of private practice in Washington, D.C., he filled in part-time as a dentist at the Army Dental Clinic in the Pentagon, the D.C. Public Health Department and as a clinical instructor at Georgetown Dental School. He retired from private practice in 1998 after 50 years.
