Barbara Ann Mansfield was born on May 30, 1929 to Frederick and Reba Johnson in Berwick, PA. She graduated with honors from Bloomsburg State Teachers College (now Bloomsburg University) in Pennsylvania. After college, Barbara accepted her first teaching job in New York and then went on to teach all over the world once she joined the Department of Defense Dependent Schools system. She often reflected on one of her favorite assignments in Japan, where she not only learned to read and speak Japanese, but she also developed a love for origami. During her travels in Europe, she met and fell in love with Arthur Mansfield. They were married in 1963 in Washington, DC.

After marriage, the couple continued to travel as Arthur was stationed at various Army bases in Europe, eventually settling in Vienna, Virginia in 1980. Barbara retired from teaching in 1976 and was a homemaker until the late 80’s when she then went on to work for WNVC TV Station. In her leisure time, she enjoyed working on computers and developing unique origami designs. She also enjoyed spending time with friends, her children and grandchildren.

Barbara Mansfield departed this life on October 3, 2020. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, her brothers, David and Russell Johnson, and her beloved son, David Mansfield. She is survived by her son, John Mansfield and daughter, Suzanne Mansfield, as well as her grandchildren, Ronnie, Peyton and Landan. Barbara lived a long, fulfilling life and her deep love of travel and learning will be forever remembered and celebrated.
