Catherine Myra Robson Mathews

catherine mathews
Catherine Myra Robson Mathews was born December 27, 1925 in New Jersey, where her father commuted to Wall Street. He lost his business, and their home, in the Crash of 1929. So began their trek of many moves, eventually settling in Vermont in the late 1930s. Despite the Depression and World War II, Catherine never lost her desire to see the world, and in 1948 joined the Foreign Service. Her first post was Paris, followed by Rome, Tel Aviv, and Athens, and then with her husband, Frankfurt and Istanbul. They retired to Virginia, and spent their leisure years traveling to Egypt, Alaska, and points between. In her eighties, Catherine fulfilled her dream of becoming a writer, starting with a memoir and with her most recent short story published in summer 2021. She died on September 3, 2021, predeceased by her husband Mathew in 2015. Catherine is survived by daughter Margaret, son Stuart, and grandchildren Erica, Charles, Christopher and Robson. A memorial service will be planned at her church, St Francis Episcopal Church of Great Falls.
