Charlotte Janet Spagnoli (nee Raubach) was born January 23rd, 1927, in West Frankfurt, Illinois; and peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on July 19th, 2022, at 1:45pm in Arlington, Virginia.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, August 3rd at 5:00pm, Money & King Funeral Home located at 171 West Maple Avenue, Vienna, VA 22180.
Charlotte attended Southern Illinois University, Carbondale where she studied Education and was very involved with her Sorority, Sigma Kappa, as well as with her Choir troupe.
Her religion was Presbyterian formally, yet she described herself as non-denominational Christian later in life.
Charlotte was an Art Teacher, English Teacher, and worked in luxury clothing sales at Jacobsen’s in Grosse Pointe, Michigan in her professional life.
She was born to Mary Ann Raubach (nee Gray) and Frank Raubach, along with 13 brothers and sisters of which she was the tenth-born.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Scott Spagnoli, 69; her daughter, Dr. Gina Spagnoli, PhD, 67; and her grandsons, Alexander Spagnoli, 29; Christopher Spagnoli, 27.
Her beloved husband, Joseph “Joe” Spagnoli, a decorated World War Two Veteran, passed away in March 2018 at 94 years old. They had been married over 65 years since at the time of Joe’s passing.
Charlotte (known by “Abu,” short for “Abuela”) will be dearly missed. Despite her living a long, fulfilling life, we still feel as though she went too soon. But she will be remembered dearly. Her recipes, love of animals and nature, and taste in art will live on with her loved ones.

Dr. Spagnoli: I am a former patient and it is alright that you don’t remember me. I just saw that you recently lost your mother. I just wanted to give you and your family my condolences and to let you know that all of you will be in my prayers. May the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob bless you all. Aunt Charlotte, Tears are flowing. I wish we could have met. We had a brief conversation about 40 years ago when you were moving from the Bloomfield Hills area. You needed a special oil for your wood floors. You wanted the house you were leaving to be perfect. I knew then we had a lot in common. Then this year, when my brother Fred died, you took the trouble to call me to enquire about his death. Brenda wasn’t taking any calls. She was so broken by his passing. We talked a long time on the phone, you and I. We covered many family history issues and told some stories. My husband of 45 years passed away May 29 at the hospice, with our only child Jessica and her husband and I holding his hands. This has been an eventful time. A sad time. I send my love to your immediate family. I see from social media that they are all high achievers, to say the least. Well done, Aunt Charlotte. I’ll see you There.
