We are deeply saddened to hear of Cliff’s passing. He was a wonderful, giving person and we were lucky to count him as a friend. Jim & Emily Ratzenberger
Sorry to hear that Cliff passed. He was congenial and a gentleman. Meeting him at Reston Runners, I had some wonderful conversations with Cliff and finding out that he was once a fellow Postal Inspector. Cliff gave a lot of his time and energy to Reston Runners and the club is better for his contributions.
I always remember great conversations with Cliff during post-race massages. He was kind, comforting and I will miss him. Paul Hartke

Cliff gave the best hugs and was always so friendly and upbeat. One of my fondest memories of him was seeing him and his employees giving massages to JFK50 runners after the race. Knowing Cliff, he probably gave those massages for free.
For years, I often spoke with Cliff at the Reston Runner Saturday morning runs and he was so supportive at race events. He was always so kind and caring, inquiring how I and my family were doing. Saddened to hear of Cliff’s passing, he was a nice person to know.
In 2017 Cliff loaned me a 4-wheeled walker for Paul’s Mom. I sometimes communicated with him to get him on the schedule for massages after the Reston Triathlon and ALWAYS enjoyed chatting with him at these events – the Reston Marathon also. He was a very kind man.
Cliff was a super nice person and easy to talk to at all the Reston Runner events over the years. He knew so much about running, massage, and life. We will miss him.
Cliff was a good man. Beneath that kind and friendly exterior was a fierce competitor. After he turned 80, I’d see Cliff on the track doing 400 repeats in 85 degree heat. I asked him, “what in the blue blazes are you doing?” Cliff replied that his 4 X 400 relay team wanted to set a record in the 80 + age category. And Cliff was training hard to up his speed. I remember him telling me, “I’m going to do my part and surprise everyone with my leg”. Well, they set the record and Cliff was effusive in his praise for his teammates. Only after some serious prodding did Cliff sheepishly admit that he ran well also. His Cliff smile gave away his happiness. It was a good lesson. Keep up the effort regardless of age. Thank you, Cliff. We will miss you.
