Dr. Robert Mark Hochman

Dr. Robert Mark Hochman, 76, of Springfield, VA, passed away from complications of Covid-19 on Monday, September 12th. Born September 21st, 1946, in New York, New York. He was the son of the late Abraham and Celia Hochman.
Bob graduated at the age of 16 from Bronx High School of Science and started his college career at Cornell University, later transferring to City College of New York. He worked on Wall Street as a portfolio analyst, but then decided to become a doctor. At that time, unfortunately, medical schools had age limits and he was past it. So instead, he attended Podiatry School in Philadelphia. After graduating in 1977, he started off his podiatry career at Andrews A.F.B. He left the Airforce after three years and went into private practice, serving patients the likes of Eunice Shriver and William Casey. Then he worked as a staff podiatrist at George Washington University Hospital and Kaiser Permanente until his back problems finished his career. His hands were extraordinarily steady, which allowed him to excel at surgery, and which he so enjoyed.
When Bob was younger, he was also quite musical and played the accordion and the banjo. He liked to travel, and particularly enjoyed going to the beach. He cared greatly about animals and was a dog rescue volunteer for the Humane Society of Fairfax County. He had a particular fondness for elephants and was an adoptive parent of elephant Flora. Bob watched the news and the stock market and Jeopardy religiously. He liked a good joke. And in his later years he loved nothing more than a good game of Scrabble.
But what Bob loved most of all were his three grandchildren whose faces graced the t-shirts that he often proudly wore and whom he greatly cherished spending time with.
The family wishes to express its gratitude to his caregivers, Zineb and Anissa for their dedicated and loving care.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Laurie, his children, Daniel and Marni and husband Terrence Jackson, and his three grandchildren, Atlas Feigel, Thai Jackson, and Abigail Hochman.
A burial service will be held at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Road,(route 619), Triangle, Va. on October 7th at 12:30 p.m., followed by a reception at the home of Mark and Lorrie Appleton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Elephant Sanctuary.

Dearest Laurie,
I am so sorry for your loss. I do have some very fond memories of our times together in the Bronx, growing up and then as adults hanging out when Marni and Daniel were born.
