Edmund Joseph Monseur

edmund monseur
On Sunday, August 25, 2019, Edmund J. Monseur passed peacefully from this world, surrounded by his loving family. Born June 23, 1928 in Wheeling, West Virginia, the son of Joseph and Edna Monseur, Lebanese immigrants, Ed was the second of four children.

Proud to be an American, Edmund served his country as a member of the Naval Reserves and later in the Army Signal Corps during the Korean War as an instructor of radio operation and repair. He studied engineering at The Ohio State University. In 1957, Ed married his beloved wife of 62 years, Catherine Thomas of Baltimore, Maryland.

Ed and Catherine moved between Ohio, Alabama, Baltimore, and Oklahoma before settling in Vienna, Virginia in 1965. They raised seven children while Ed continued a career in the electronics and aerospace industry, ultimately becoming a quality control manager.

Ed was a giant, and no cursory obituary could begin to describe the loss this family feels or his prodigiousness in the hearts of those who knew and cherished him. Ed shared his love of God family, country, music, food, laughing, cars, and electronics with us. Above all, he showed us how to love and to care for others. We will miss him and hold him in our hearts forever.

Ed was preceded in death by his brother Anthony Monseur and sister Dolores Palotay of Wheeling, West Virginia, his brother Michael Monseur of Centerville, Ohio, and his grandson, Gregory Monseur.

Ed leaves behind his devoted wife Catherine and their seven children: Mary, Joseph, Elizabeth (Donny), Anthony, Patrick (Phallin), Eddie (Anne), and Paul. He also leaves behind twelve grandchildren: Mike, Gordon, Alexandra, Gabrielle, Joseph (Parul), Emily, Jared, John, George, Jacob, Olivia, and Sophie.

Viewing will be 2–4pm and 6–8pm on Thursday, September 5th at Money and King Funeral Home in Vienna, Virginia. A funeral Mass will be held at 11am on Friday, September 6th at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Vienna, Virginia. Interment will be at Fairfax Memorial Park followed by a reception in DeSales Hall back at Our Lady of Good Counsel.

Guestbook

  1. To the entire Monseur Family, my deepest condolences. There is no way in an online memorial I could begin to describe the feelings of respect and admiration I had for Ed. With total sincerity I can state that growing up Ed was a father-figure to me and a mentor. To this day, Ed is still the smartest person I have ever known. Ed taught me everything I know about repairing appliances, working on cars, electronics, carpentry, and the list goes on and on. The only reason I can fix things today is because Ed took the time to teach me. I was very fortunate a few years ago to be able to tell Ed what he has meant to me and the positive influence he had on my life. Even today when tackling a project, I think to myself WWED (What Would Ed Do)! Ed Monseur was a good and decent family man that I will miss greatly.

  2. Uncle Eddie was a kind, generous, and holy man. His love for God and his family remains an inspiration to us all. His genuine warmth and hospitality came through to anyone who entered the Monseur home. Uncle Eddie was a delight to be around, and I never tired of the stories he told as we sat around the family kitchen table. To my dear cousins and Aunt Catherine: nothing can ever replace his love but I know that your wonderful memories of the life Uncle Eddie lived will bring you comfort and give you strength in the years ahead.

  3. Uncle Eddie was one in a million. He offered such comfort, hospitality and humor to all whom he met, and his deep voice and large stature provided a tough exterior to a truly gentle and kind soul. His deep devotion to God and to his family, especially to beautiful Aunt Catherine, distinguishes this most remarkable man. Oh, Uncle Eddie, you will be missed so, so, so very much, actually more than I can express, but we celebrate you, your legacy and the heart print that you left on us. What a party it must be in Heaven now! Eat some kibbeh nayeh for me.

  4. To Mrs. Monseur and Family, Many fond memories growing up with you all especially from OLGC. My deepest condolences to you each and everyone. Peace and Love, God Bless. Patty (Chuck & Skeets Payne daughter).
