On Tuesday, December 22, 2020, Edward Eugene Butler, loving husband of 50 years and father of two, unexpectedly passed away at the age of 69, at Walter Reed Medical Center from a pulmonary embolism. Ed was born in Des Moines, IA on June 6, 1951. He met the love of his life, Sheryl Butler (Knapp) and they were married on May 28, 1970. He joined the United States Air Force three months later and proudly served for 23 years, retiring in October 1993.

Ed and Sheryl enjoyed a loving marriage where they shared many passions throughout the years, which included attending Nascar races in their motorhome and eventually finding the love of cruising around the world exploring new places with Royal Carribean Cruise Line (Loyal to Royal).

Ed loved his family, and his grandchildren were the light of his life. He played a very supportive and active role in their lives by attending soccer and field hockey games, music and chorus concerts, Taekwondo lessons, and whatever else his grandchildren were involved in.

Ed is survived by his wife, Sheryl Butler, two children and their spouses; Troy & Holli Butler, Amber & Daren Gardner, his three grandchildren; Bretton Butler, Dylan Gardner and Christian Gardner.

Guestbook

  1. Life Moves Pretty Fast. If You Dont Stop And Look Around Once In A While, You Could Miss It. – Ferris Bueller Rest In Peace.

  2. Ed always had a bright greeting and a sharp comeback and his mind was constantly working on having the right attitude about life. Through the years he comes to mind whenever I see a Nascar race as he was kind enough to take me on a road trip up and down the coast to many big races, a time of my life I won’t ever forget. The wonderful man he is, remains very clear by the family he created. Thank you Ed for the memories and the impact you made on my life. Christopher Shotwell

  3. Our deepest condolences, Sheryl, to you and the Butler family on your loss of Ed. He was a fine and exemplary man who will be missed by all who knew him. Chuck and Cathy Loomis
