Eileen Saccheri

eileen saccheri
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Eileen Saccheri, age 86, of Fairfax, Virginia on Monday, March 9. Eileen passed away unexpectedly and is survived by her sister Rita Rice, her brother John O'Sullivan, her sister Mary Brown, her sister Jill Roberts, her sister Janet O'Sullivan, her brother Martin O'Sullivan, her daughter Anne (David) Saccheri-Smith, her son Jean-Paul Saccheri, her grandsons David and Michael Smith, her granddaughter Samantha Smith. Eileen earned her nursing degree from the Queen Elizabeth School of Nursing, in Birmingham, England. She completed post-graduate studies, specializing in Neonatogy, radiation therapy, and Geriatrics. Eileen was married to her beloved husband, John Saccheri, for 38 years until his passing. They lived overseas, over the course of 24 years, in the Belgian Congo (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo); Thailand; Abidjan, the Ivory Coast; Manilla, the Philippines; Pordenone, Italy; and Cairo, Egypt during her husband's career with the United Nations and with the Foreign Service, USAID, a branch of the State Department. Eileen knew, from the time she was a very young girl, that she wanted to be a nurse, and she wanted to travel the world. She accomplished both. After returning to the United States, Eileen and her family settled down in Vienna, Virginia and started her next career at Long and Foster, where she worked for over 20 years until her sudden illness.

Most of all, Eileen loved people. She cared so much, for so many, all over the world. She loved her family and friends with all her heart. All who knew her were touched by her.

Guestbook

  1. To Anne, Jean-Paul, David, David, Michael, Samantha, Rita, John, Mary, Jill, Janet and Martin. We were very sorry to hear of the immense loss of Auntie Eileen. We greatly enjoyed and looked forward to her many visits to Ireland over the years, where the family reunited. I myself was delighted in 2014 to take Eileen, David, Michael and Samantha to Newgrange, Co. Meath, Ireland. I remember Eileen saying how she found the ancient monument very spiritual. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. The fond memories and happy moments of Eileen will live on in all our hearts forever. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam dílis. Sinéad O’Sullivan, Gerry, Aoife and Darragh Gunnigan.

  2. My sister Eileen was a warm, generous and caring person. She was the lynchpin of our family when we my brothers and sisters were growing up. Her generosity of spirit, her presence, her thoughts and deeds, we my children and grandchildren will miss her greatly. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Anne, Jean-Paul, David, David, Michael and Samantha. To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam dílis. Rest in Peace Eileen.

  3. Eileen wasn’t just my next door neighbor, she was my good friend. We enjoyed many talks over the years whether it was about our families, current events, one of her trips, or things going on in the neighborhood. She was a determined woman and begrudgingly allowed me to help her carry groceries from her car, although that didn’t happen often. My sincere condolences to her family who she loved dearly. Knowing you were next door comforted me. I miss you, Eileen, now and will for a long time to come.
