Elmer "Pete" Clifton Lofton, McLean, VA entered eternal life on Friday, July 15, 2022. Pete was born on Sunday, October 24, 1937, in Hardy County WV. He was the son of the late Homer Howard Lofton and Sadie Ellen (Sions) Lofton.

He was united in marriage on October 8, 1960, to Cecelia Ann Perlowski who survives. In addition to Cecelia, his wife, he is also survived by two sons, Gregory A. Lofton and wife Patricia Ann Lofton of Berryville, VA and son, Michael S. Lofton and wife Phyllis A. Lofton of Seaford, VA. Eight grandchildren Rebecca M. Lofton of Hilton Head Island, SC, Michelle A. Lofton of Louisa, VA, Andrea N. Burns of Orange, VA, and Samuel J. Lofton of Berryville, VA.

Hollyn S. Lofton Williams of Dubin, VA, Bradley N. Lofton of Newark, DE, Benjamin and Jack Lofton of Seaford, VA.

One great-granddaughter Ruby June Swanlund of Louisa, VA.

He was proceeded in death by three brothers Chester, Homer (Junior) and James Lofton, six sisters Mildred and Eloise Lofton, Bernice See, Patricia Ottavino, Freda Branson, and Ada Alderman. He is survived by three sisters, Lila See, Libby (Roger) Abel of Buckhannon, WV. Rose Sholes of Weston, VA. Pete was born on his sister Bernice's birthday ten years apart, October 24, 1927, and October 24, 1937, Pete's birthday.

Member of Saint John the Beloved Catholic Church, McLean, VA.

After 20 years in the U.S. Army and earning the Silver Star, Bronze Star with "V" Device, and two Purple Hearts, he retired as a First Sergeant at The Old Guard, Fort Myer, VA where he served about eleven years. Then he owed his own Television Shop for a couple of years followed by 20 years as a "Top Performer" with the Xerox Corporation as a Service Manager.

He loved woodworking, fishing and hunting with his two sons, Greg, and Michael. He was their Cub Master in Pack 111 in Arlington, VA.

Funeral Saturday 23 July 1:30 PM, Saint John the Beloved Church, 6420 Linway Terrace, McLean, VA. The program may be downloaded HERE.

  2. Pete and I served together in Vietnam. Pete was the Platoon Sergeant/Platoon Leader of 3rd Platoon, Company A, 5th Battalion, 60th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division, in what was arguably the most difficult terrain in Vietnam, the Mekong Delta. Dependable, brave, highly proficient, loved by his soldiers, Pete was the epitome of a combat leader. Well done my friend. Alan G.
