It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Frances L. Sicola, 81, of Vienna, VA on November 21, 2021, in her own home, surrounded by love. She fought a valiant battle against cancer, including six clinical trials, and will be missed by many.

She was born June 27, 1940, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of the late David Haering and Anna Botta. Frances was a graduate of St. Raphael’s in Pittsburgh, Pa., where she was head cheerleader for the Morningside Bulldogs, and St. Francis College in Loretta, Pa.

After many years as a dedicated educator, Frances retired from St. James Catholic School in Falls Church, Va., where she taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science, math, and religion. Teaching children was her passion, and she made a lasting impact on the lives of her students and colleagues, many of whom became life-long friends.

Frances (also affectionately known as Frannie or Fran) will always be remembered for her energetic spirit, her love of life, her strong religious beliefs, artistic flair, and her love for the many people who crossed her path throughout her life. She was a beautiful person who always listened, shared her advice and thoughts, was a strong advocate for those she loved, and made a difference in every life that she touched. She most enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and had a special bond with her granddaughter, Gianna.

Frances was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Cerra, brother Thomas Patarlis, and brother David Haering. Frances is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Michael Sicola, of Vienna, Va.; daughter Michelle Herd, son-in-law Andy, and cherished granddaughter, Gianna, of Vienna, Va.; her son Christopher Sicola of San Diego, Ca.; brother Charles G. Haering and wife, Mary Lou, of Pueblo. Co.; sister Mary Anne Wirth and husband, Jim, of Palatine, Ill.; and brother Robert J. Haering and wife, Sandy, of Milton, Ga.
