Frank Rook Trelawney

Frank Rook Trelawney, 81, of Glen Allen, Virginia died March 22, 2023 surrounded by his family. Frank was born to Virginia and Frank Trelawney, Sr. on July 1, 1941 in Memphis, Tennessee. He was a life-long scientist who was interested in the natural world; he graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology and a Master’s of Science Teaching from Memphis State. Whether it was wielding a research boat on the Mississppi, analyzing blood samples, engaging with tame and wild animals (he once adopted a squirrel), studying the wonders of this big blue marble we call home with his beloved personal library or teaching biology and chemistry to high school students, he deeply cared about the cosmos and our place in it. Frank taught at Woodson and Oakton High Schools in Fairfax County, Virginia for thirty years and in his retirement continued to teach future nursing students at J. Sargent Reynolds in Richmond, Virginia and with Averett University in Danville, Virginia. Frank was an amazing artist, who worked in many mediums, but mainly acrylic. His family will treasure his artwork, but will also remember him as a hilarious jokester, an exceptional cook, a music lover of many genres, a keen chess player, a proud father, and doting Granddaddy. Frank is survived by his devoted wife and best friend, Sarah and their three children, Ginny, Nicholas, and Jake. Frank adored the additions to the Trelawney family including his son-in-law Bill, and daughters-in-law, Sara and Megan and nine grandchildren–Caroline, Emmy, Olivia, Mack, Rook, Sawyer, Miller, Scarlett, and Lochlan. There are many friends who will also miss Frank dearly including those of his children and grandchildren. He left quite an impression when you met him. Frank was predeceased by his parents and his son, Ian McFadden Trelawney. Frank’s family will have a celebration of his life on Monday, March 27, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the Fairfax Unitarian Universalist Church in Oakton, Virginia. There will be a graveside service at Flint Hill Cemetery in Vienna at 2:30 pm following the church service. A reception will follow at the Vienna Inn.
