Glen Albers, Jr.

May 1, 1935 – January 13, 2019

On Sunday, January 13th, after finishing the shoveling of snow off his front walkway, Glen Albers’ heart finally gave up on trying to keep up with him -- he was 83. Glen’s life ended much as he lived it – with hard work, tenacious grit, and an undying commitment to finishing whatever he started. May he now rest in peace.

Glen Albers was born May 1st, 1935, in Spencer, IA. He was the eldest of three boys - brothers Ron and Jerry followed. Glen excelled academically and athletically throughout his Iowan youth, and upon graduation from High School in 1952, enlisted in the US Navy, serving as an electronics specialist aboard a Martin P-5 patrol aircraft stationed in Bermuda. After the Navy, he used his GI Bill to earn his BS/EE from Iowa State. He married the beautiful Margaret (Marge) Kennedy on June 13th, 1959, after which they moved to NY where Glen worked for IBM and earned his MS/CS at NYU. They had two sons (Michael and Bryan), and following stints in CA, MN, and IL, the family settled in McLean, VA, where Glen served in the CIA until his retirement.

After 47 years of marriage, Glen lost Marge to Alzheimer’s. He is survived by his two sons, two brothers, seven grandchildren, one great-grand child, and his partner of the last decade, Bonnie Weston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Luke Catholic Church, 7001 Georgetown Pike, McLean, VA on Tuesday, January 22nd. Viewing will be at noon; Mass at 1:00pm, with a reception to follow. Online condolences and fond memories of Glen may be offered to the family at www.moneyandking.com

  1. Mike and Family. So sorry to hear about your Dad’s passing. I fondly recall times at their home and seeing Glen frequently walking the Churchill Road corridor on many occasions. He is now with Marge.
