James I. Lundy, III

james lundy, iii
James “Jim” Ivison Lundy III passed away on July 26, 2021, at age 69 with the love of his family surrounding him.

Jim was born in Greenwood, Mississippi in 1952 to James and Margaret Lundy. During his childhood years, he loved scouting and became an Eagle Scout. He received bachelor’s degrees in accounting and sociology from Millsaps College. While attending Millsaps, he met the love of his life and best friend Cynthia “Cindy” Shuford. They immediately knew they were meant for each other and were married after dating for just 4 months. They spent the remaining 49 years loving and supporting each other. Jim had an extremely avid work ethic. After graduation from college, he became a CPA and worked in the accounting department of American Security Bank in Washington D.C. At that time, he achieved his law degree from the George Washington University with honors through night classes while working a full-time job during the day. He became a successful securities lawyer and was involved in mergers and acquisitions for his banking clients. Jim loved to read a variety of books on topics including religion, philosophy and different cultures which led to a wealth of knowledge and random facts. Having this knowledge, he was excellent at Jeopardy, a fierce Scrabble player and great at solving crossword puzzles. Jim also had a natural ability to paint and play music. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his laugh, his kindness, his passion for cooking, his intelligence and his devotion to his family.

Jim will be missed by his wife of 49 years, Cindy; sons, James and Ian; sister, Sinclair Lundy of Hattiesburg, MS; daughter in-law, Kara; grandchildren, Julia, Emma, Olivia and William; and dog Gracie.

Jim was predeceased by his parents, James and Margaret.

A memorial service is not planned in the immediate future.

Guestbook

  1. While I did not have the pleasure to meet or know Jim, I have worked with his son James for a decade. To the extent that the son is a reflection, at least in part, of the father, Jim was an amazing person. He and his wife Cindy raised an impressive young man who is smart, thoughtful and hard working, who himself is an amazing family man, husband and father. I’m sure Jim was as proud of his son as his son is proud of him. James will carry the positive legacy of his father and no doubt instill that ethic in his family, friends, colleagues, and those whom he influences by example of a life well lived.

  2. Cindy, Jamie & Ian, I was so sorry to hear about Jim’s passing. I remember us coming up to see y’all Thanksgivings when I was young. Praying for you Cindy & the whole family during this difficult time. Angel & Randy
