Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. This is such a sad loss to his family and so many of us, on so many levels. As his cousin, he was the delight of the family gathering! His big personality and on-time humor will not be forgotten, nor will his crystal blue eyes! Jimmy, I will miss you.

  2. Holly: My heart goes out to you – Jim was larger than life in all things – from his dapper suits and fashionable Harley garb – he was a sylin’ dude. His love for baseball was legendary to all of us. I remember warm summer nights at the stadium and Jim pacing back and forth, rocking on his heels with his signature gait, and nervously watching his players like a hawk. Tall, beautiful, kind Holly would be there overseeing the team with her nursing skills – it was summer heaven and seared into my heart as the best of summer memories. Jim was a human walking encyclopedia and would regale you with his hilarious fun facts and spin on current events – ending it with “True Story!” Anyone who knows him has that phrase in their heart forever. I am bereft that he did not see his Nationals win the World Series, but I do know that next summer he will be cheering on any and all teams that beats Rockville Express’s arch nemesis, The Big Train! Love to you and your family Holly – Kathy Mostrom

  3. My sincere condolences to the family. My cousin Jimmy was always very kind and thoughtful when it came to the extended family. We will miss his great smile and warm personality…he is now smiling at all of us with his mother in heaven. God Bless

  4. The entire Botwin family of Rockville is stunned and saddened by this news. I worked with Jim for many years running the Rockville Express and hosting players in our home. We always had fun fighting the bureaucracy at Montgomery College each season to allow the Express team to use “their field” and eventually setup the fields lights. The Ripken League bureaucracy and egos were not much better. Somehow Jim always had a smile on his face and a nice word to say when dealing with these self important people. Despite our shoestring budgets things usually worked out for the best. I especially enjoyed when the Express would beat the Big Train. Jim would have a smile on his face for days. And I bet Jim was talking up Joe Smith, a relief pitcher for the World Series Astros and an original member of the Rockville Express. Lastly, I also admired his love for little Jimmy, now a Lt in the U.S. Army! Now I’m smiling.

  5. I’ll never forget going to high school and college with him and the days at TKE. We had some great , great and intensely fun times. RIP

  6. Just heard of your passing and David, Morgan and I just cannot believe you are gone! We will forever remember your generosity, quick wit, baseball legendary knowledge and the belly rolling laughs as Santa Jim. Morgan and I still talk about your better than Cal Ripken looks, but mostly your blue eyes that made even David green with envy. You are forever immortalized in photos of all of us with you playing Santa, but more than that, you are forever immortalized in our hearts and memories! We hope that big diamond in the sky knows how lucky they are to have you, Baseball Jim, as an Angel in the outfield. Rest well dear friend and we will see you on the ball field at the seventh inning stretch. Love Always, David, Christine and Morgan Brennan
