Joan Barrett Palumbo

joan palumbo
Our loving and devoted mother, Joan Barrett Hill Palumbo passed peacefully into the arms of her loving God on Thursday, March 12, 2020, at her home in Vienna, VA. She was preceded by her husband, Pat Palumbo, and is survived by her adoring children, Patrick, Carol (Brian), Marie (Jonathan), Patricia (Paul), and Thomas (Courtney) as well as twelve grandchildren. Joan was born in Cleveland, OH and raised on Lake Erie, attended Rosary College and lived in Italy in the early years of her marriage. Her passions included art and traveling and she worked as a tour guide taking groups, as well as her friends, her children and grandchildren on many trips throughout Europe and the US. The focal point of her life was her faith which brought her joy and was deep and unwavering. As a beloved parishioner at St. Luke Catholic church for 43 years, she volunteered and worked in the parish school of religious education as well as served as a Eucharistic Minister. She cared for others always and people gravitated toward her beautiful nature of warmth and humor. Her most favorite thing in the world was to be with her children and her peace, grace and wit lit up our lives.

Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Focus.org as her grandson Christian’s work was so important to Joan.

  1. wew We are sincerely grieved for the disappearance of the dear Joan. Dears our condolences to all the family. Cousins Pastore from Italy

  2. I’m so sorry for the loss of your mom. She was a lovely person. The last time I saw her, she was with my mom – her sister, Ruthanne Burns O’Keefe when my mom was close to death. Joan brought cheer, humor, and fond memories. They shared stories of childhood friends and, unbelievably, many laughs. I attended mass with Joan when she was on her final visit with my mom. When they said goodbye, they knew it would be their last visit. I was in awe of Joan’s courage and grace. I’ll never forget her beautiful spirit. I’m so sorry, you guys. Love, Tim O’Keefe
