John Thomas Simpson

john simpson
John Thomas Simpson, age 50, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2019 with his loving family by his side. Born in Amityville New York, John was the son of Bruce and Diane (Quinn) Simpson. John was raised in Tamarac, Florida and graduated from the University of Florida in 1991 with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Upon graduating college, he was accepted into the Marine Corps Officers Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia. He served as an officer for nine years, specializing in Communications, resigning as Captain. John married his soul mate, Orna (Sharabani) in 2000. John and Orna resided in Sterling, Virginia where they raised their two beautiful, resilient and remarkable daughters, Katriel and Karina. He earned his Master of Business Administration degree from Marymount University in 2013. John was most recently employed at Microsoft as a Project Manager.

John will be remembered for being a devoted husband, father, son, grandson, uncle, nephew and friend. He possessed an ever-growing eagerness to learn and a natural ability to teach others. He was committed in supporting and raising his family and was their protector in every way. John was a proud and honorable man, a dedicated Marine, and now, a guardian angel.

John enjoyed playing golf and tennis, watching college football (Go Gators!), and skiing the slopes in Colorado. His attention to detail and his mechanical mindset made him a persistent handyman, whether the item needed repairing or not. His passion of planes and history was evident as his first place to take visitors was always the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. Traveling the world and experiencing different cultures was a shared hobby between John and his family. Some of his favorite places to visit included California, Japan, London, and Orna’s homeland of Israel.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 19 years, Orna; his daughters, Katriel and Karina; his parents, Bruce and Diane Simpson; his sister, Michele Harris (Mike); his three nephews, Cody, Michael and Ryan; his grandmother, Janet Simpson; and many other extended family members who will cherish his memory.

Family visitation will be from 11:00 to 12:00 pm on Monday, November 25, followed by friends and family from 12:00 – 2:00 pm, at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Great Falls, VA. A church service will immediately follow from 2:00 – 3:00 pm. To honor John’s service in the Marine Corp, a graveside service will take place at Quantico National Cemetery on Tuesday, November 26 at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s memory to St. Francis Episcopal Church.

Guestbook

  1. We’ve had the pleasure of being friends and neighbors of John, Orna and the girls for almost 15 years. We’ve taken ski trips together, celebrated holidays, watched fireworks from their deck, and had innumerable neighborhood gatherings over those years…and the one thing I always counted on was the big beaming smile on John’s face like the one in this picture. Rest in peace John, we miss you. All our love to his immediate and extended family…he is and will be watching and guiding you from above.

  2. John was my roommate in Arlington, VA when we were both Marine Lieutenants from 1993 to 1995. He was there when I met my wife and when we got married. I was fortunate to be with him when he married Orna! We had a great time together enjoying the social and sports scenes in DC! He was definitely a HUGE Florida football fan and I had fun watching him squirm during the games we would watch together. We both liked heavy metal (our favorite was Metallica!) and Jim Beam in those days! I’ve enjoyed watching John grow into a wonderful husband and father. He was a great guy and will be missed by all who knew him. Semper Fi brother…

  3. Rest In Peace John, and watch over us as we continue our journeys. It was a pleasure to both work with and for you and to have known you during our tenure at Scitor. My condolences to your family and friends. Dave C.

  4. I met John 3 1/2 years ago. The few months I got to work with him as a peer were instrumental in shaping my success as a leader at MS. One of John’s talents was to pull the team back to our values and primary purpose. Next I watched as John met his health challenges straight on with courage, cheerfulness and positivity. He is a hero and an inspiration in the way he handled the last episode of his life here on earth. I can’t wait to talk and laugh with him in heaven.

  5. I grew up with John in Tamarac, Florida. He was a bit older than me and I looked up to him like a big brother. He displayed strong leadership traits on the baseball field and around our neighborhood friends. Later in life, I wasn’t surprised to learn that John became a Marine Officer because he was a strong leader. I’m saddened by his passing. My family and I are praying that God comforts his loved ones during this time of sadness. Semper Fi John.
