Julie Anne West

Julie Anne West left this world to be with the Lord on May 3rd, 2023. She leaves behind her loving family and friends including The Warren Family whom she lived with for 13 years (Rob, Sharla, Charlie, Vivian, Camilla), the Meadows Family (Dawn, Trevor & Carson), as well as her close friends Stacy and Elliot Uhl, Katie and Ben Ogle, Renee Alarid and Jason Price, Curt Putney, Elizabeth and Gino Pelligrino, Samantha Jenkins, Hannah Jones, and many more.
Julie grew up in Iowa with her dad, Frank West. She graduated from Eldora - New Providence High School in Eldora, IA. She attended Drake University and Iowa State University. In 2010, she moved to Virginia to be a nanny for the Warren’s, and the children have never known life without her. Julie was like a third parent to them, and a member of the family. She was also a friend of many in the school, swim, church, and neighborhood communities. During the school year she was a constant fixture, volunteering in whatever way was helpful. In the summer you could often find her on the pool deck volunteering with the Oakton Otters, and cheering on the team. Over the years, she volunteered with various youth ministries, including mentoring highschoolers at Annandale United Methodist church and more recently The Falls Church Anglican (TFCA) Children’s choir.
In describing herself she said she was a “Christian who loves my family, my friends, my dog Stella, coffee, and training. The beach is my happy place and nothing beats a good book.”
On top of being an integral part of the Warren household, Julie was a licensed massage therapist and worked at Massage Envy Reston, as well as a Wellness Coach, and a Virtual Assistant.
She was a ray of light who was passionate about life. She was extremely giving to the community and was always available to help. Julie was a devoted friend to many and enjoyed traveling, and having adventures and good conversations.
Julie’s service will be at The Falls Church Anglican at 3:30pm on May 16, with a short church reception to follow. There will be an informal open house Celebration of Life from 6pm-10pm at Oakton Swim and Racquet Club (OSRC).
We take comfort in the knowledge that Julie had a strong faith and loved the Lord.

Your friendship meant so much to me. Conversations with you could turn a bad day into a good one! It wasn’t always easy to stay in touch living so far apart but with your visits to Iowa and mine to Virginia the last few years were still full of good times. I don’t seem to have enough pictures now so I’m glad you convinced me to take the ones we do have. I will miss you always!

Where to begin?
Thirteen years ago, you spilled Belgian beer on my kitchen floor in our first meeting and apologized profusely. All I did was screw up my face and laugh. When you laughed back, I knew I had made a friend. Then, you kidnapped my wife for a surf trip to Hawaii where both of you made a permanent bond. In the years that followed, I was more than happy to be the surfing groupie making coffee runs, carrying boards, and towing wagons with sunscreen, wax, fresh water, and your biggest fan, Laurel. We all adored you. We still do. I’ll never forget our conversations and what you taught me. You don’t have to have children to be a good parent – you reminded me to listen to Laurel and respect her as I would want to be respected. Your fierce convictions were an inspiration. Your willingness to hear challenges to those convictions were even more so. From theology to politics to what onions are best in guacamole, we never had a dull or pointless conversation. Renee would referee at times and remind us that we sounded like siblings. I will be a little lost without you. You are my sister from another mister and I will never, ever forget you.

I worked with Julie many years ago at a US Cellular store in Nevada. She was so fun to work with. Always positive had a kind word for everyone she meet. My condolences to her family and all her loved ones
I was so heartbroken to find that Julie had left us so early! She and my oldest daughter were friends in HS and college. I have several photographs of her having fun at our farmhouse in Iowa. She was such a pretty girl with an infectious smile and oh those big dimples! She had such a sunny disposition. It just doesnt seem possible that she could be gone! I’m comforted knowing she is with the Lord and reunited with her dad. Rest in peace dear girl.
To say that you were a big part of my life during my time at ISU would be an understatement. We were always a bit of an unlikely pair, but I’m grateful for the times spent together. Some of the best memories from that chapter of life were made with you. Years later, I was so happy you made it a point to come and visit. It was so great to hear about your adventures, new hobbies, and your new-found family. Every time I’m back in Iowa I’ve wondered if I’ll run into you, selling sweet corn in the summer. Somehow you found your way to Fort Dodge, of all places, and somehow I was there, too. I’ve still got the recording you made of that Stevie Wonder song, and now cherish it more than ever. April always makes me think of you, your birthday, and I wish I would have reached out to say hi again, to see how you were doing. By the looks of it now, you were busy. Busy bringing joy and smiles to everyone around you. You’ll be missed greatly- you had a lot of love, joy, and smiles left to give to the world.

You made me so welcome as an exchange student so many years ago. You always had a glow around you and made everybody happy just by being around and being yourself. Your positive energy always has been an inspiration. You are love. I am greatful to have known you. Thank you so much. Ellen
