Leonard Ennis "Bing" Wayland, Jr.
December 24, 1935 ~ December 6, 2018
Leonard Ennis “Bing” Wayland, Jr. passed away on December 6th, 2018, with his daughter, Julie and her husband Roger, at his side. He leaves behind his grandson Joshua and his grandson’s wife Kaila Neidigh, his granddaughters Jessy Wayland and Liz Gibb, his nephew John Christopher Lyerly, and those family and friends that knew and loved him.
Dad was born in Washington D.C. to Leonard Ennis and Mary Kathryn Wayland on December 24, 1935. After high school, Dad went on to join the Coast Guard, serving and receiving The National Defense Service medal and The Good Conduct Medal, until his end of service in June 1958. From there, he went into the D.C. Fire Department and served for the full 20 years, retiring at the age of 42.
My father’s world was his beloved wife, Lola, who preceded him in death on August 19th, 2018, and my brother Shawn, who passed January 16, 1996. Those that knew and loved my father knew of his sense of humor, his love of his family, and his incredible love and undying devotion to my Mom. It was losing this love of 57 years that truly broke his heart. Coupled with his own health problems, my Dad could no longer bear this earth without my Mom.
His hobbies included coins (more of an obsession, really, to those that knew him), stamps, 30+years of yard sales that amassed a collection of various historical pieces and treasures he held dear, and studying the history of our world and our country. His sense of humor, kind heart, smile, laughter, and love will be missed more than words could ever express. His love of his grandchildren was paramount in his life. With every phone call came a huge smile on his face, stories, laughter, and memories that they shared. The loss to his grandchildren is felt deeply, as theirs was a relationship that was truly unique and special between each of them.
My Dad is now with my Mom, which was his last wish, dancing, laughing, telling a tasteful and not so tasteful joke, and for all eternity beside the one and only love of his life, my Mom. As I said to Mom, we love you then, now, always and forever.
The family will have a graveside ceremony for anyone that wishes to attend on Thursday, December 13, 2018, at 1:00 p.m., at Rock Creek Cemetery in Washington D.C.
