Marguerite Clara Del Prete

marguerite del prete
Marguerite C. DelPrete, 82, a spirited, trailblazer who dedicated her life to the service of others, died Jan 2 peacefully at home with her daughter by her side. She was a Scranton native and resident of McLean, Virginia, and she was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband, Louis C. DelPrete.

Born Marguerite Clara DeAntona on November 21, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Clara Notartomas DeAntona. Marguerite dedicated her life to serving others in her communities and church and especially through her nursing vocation. She earned her registered nursing degree from the Scranton State Hospital School of Nursing, and tended to the sick at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital and then at Mercy Hospital in Scranton for over 30 years. With two young children and one very supportive husband, Marguerite went on to earn her Bachelors of Science from Misericordia University and her Masters Degree from the University of Scranton. She later retired as the Risk Manager of Mercy Hospital, and she and Lou retired to The Villages, Florida, where they spent their days enjoying friends and their nights dancing in the town square, while their children served in the military (Army and Navy). Marguerite's calling to minister to the sick endured and inspired her to come out of retirement and become a Hospice nurse in Florida.

Marguerite approached life, including the difficult moments near the end of her life, with an elegance, dignity, courage and grace that inspires all. While managing Alzheimer's Disease for over 8 years and recovering from multiple strokes, her faith in God and her focus on the well-being of others remained steadfast. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, sister and friend.

Marguerite is survived by her daughter, Catherine and her husband Michael; son, Louis and his wife Hiromi; grandchildren, Aidan, Alexandra, CJ, Katelyn, and Aya; siblings, Mary Ann Coray, Joseph and Alyce DeAntona, and Paul and Gayle DeAntona; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, January 16, 2021, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Lucy's Catholic Church in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Private family interment will be held at the convenience of the family at the Cathedral Cemetery, also in Scranton, PA. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to St. Joseph's Center, 2010 Adams Avenue, Scranton, PA 18509, www.stjosephscenter.org, 570-963-1260.
