Marie Therese (Swazey) Espinoza, age 77
Marie Espinoza, former Vienna, Virginia, resident died on January 25, 2021, at Heritage Village Memory Care facility in Gainesville, Virginia.
Marie was born in Bronx, New York on February 10, 1943 to Marie and Hollis Swazey. Marie grew up in Pelham, New York and attended Mercy College in Tarrytown, New York where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. Marie moved to California where she met Richard Espinoza on a Church ski trip in 1967 when he loaned her $20. They married in 1968 and went on to have three daughters.
Marie was a stay-at-home mom for many years before working various part-time jobs including assisting the elderly and delivering Meals on Wheels. She was also very involved in her daughters’ activities and schools. She was a room mom, Girl Scout leader, soccer mom and band mom.
Marie started working full time as an analyst for the Government when her girls got older. She retired after 20 years in 2005. Once retired, Marie enjoyed reading, walking, traveling and learning new things.
Marie is survived by her husband Richard Espinoza, daughters Christine (Richard) Nielsen, Victoria Arms, Elizabeth (Robert) Garza, 8 grandchildren, sisters Peggy Marino and Barbara Graves, multiple nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents Marie and Hollis Swazey, sister Janet Teetsel, brother Richard Swazey, and son-in-law Gregory Arms.
A private visitation for the immediate family is being held on Friday, January 29th, 2021 at Money and King Funeral Home in Vienna, Virginia. A funeral Mass for a limited number of guests will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 11am ET at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Vienna, Virginia. The service will also be livestreamed. A burial service will take place at a later date.
Donations in Marie’s name may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association.
