Mary Frances Mulloy

Mary Frances Sullivan Mulloy, known to all as “Mary Fran”, passed away on May 6, 2022, at the age of 91 after a long life filled with love. Though not well in recent years, her joy for life and her fighting spirit kept her pushing through even after her beloved husband’s death. Born on January 12, 1931, to Jeremiah and Mary Sullivan, she was the eldest of five children. The family resided in Medford, MA until 1950 when they moved to Milton, MA where Mary Fran lived until she was married.

Mary Fran attended Malden Catholic High School and eventually graduated in 1953 from Emmanuel College in Boston. After graduation, she pursued her love of education and became a third-grade teacher at Vogel School in Wrentham. Although she earned a modest teaching salary, she would frequently purchase necessities such as socks, undergarments, and coats for her students in need and tell the parents that the items were donated. As a humble Catholic, she would always do the right thing when no one was looking.

Before graduating college, her best friend brought her to a dance at the US Naval Academy where Mary Fran met and fell in love with a midshipman by the name of Paul J. Mulloy of Belmont, MA. After they were wed, Paul’s military career moved them all over the country as they built a large family of seven children together. Throughout their marriage, she and Paul enjoyed traveling the world.

Mary Fran could always be found in her kitchen as she enjoyed cooking for everyone that came to her home. She loved discovering new recipes as evidenced by the stacks of cookbooks and cooking magazines found throughout the house. Her children, however, were her biggest source of joy even during Paul’s many deployments; she devoted her life to her family. Being a teacher, mother, and Navy wife was everything to her. Mary Fran made friends everywhere she went, and she was loved by so many. She was a faithful woman always ready to give a smile, a helping hand, or a moment to chat. She leaves a legacy of faith and kindness to be paid forward by those whose lives she made better with her smile and laughter.

Mary Fran’s marriage to Paul was legendary and those around them would often comment about the love and partnership they shared. She truly was Paul’s rock always there to support, listen and offer advice throughout the many stages of his career. Paul often said she had a sharp mind and a keen sense of business. Upon retirement, Mary Fran and Paul settled in Falmouth, MA where they loved to gather the clan in the summers and holidays.

Mary Fran was married to Paul for 61 years when he passed in 2016 and during all those years, he always referred to her as “his beautiful bride”. She is preceded in death by her son Robert Brian Mulloy and her sister Joan Sullivan. She is survived by her children Jeff Mulloy (Patty), Stephen Mulloy (Amy), David Mulloy (Susan), Mary Mulloy (Rob Lyter, deceased), Pamela Anderson (Doug), and Patricia Pidcock (Mark), her three brothers, Jack Sullivan, Richard Sullivan, and Jerry Sullivan, and her 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mary Fran will be laid to rest with Paul at Arlington National Cemetery. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Ft Myer Old Post Chapel on July 29, 2022 at 2:45 pm. Interment will follow immediately after.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating in her memory to the Community Health Center of Cape Cod, 107 Commercial St., Mashpee, MA 02649. Funeral arrangements will be handled by Money & King Funeral Home, 171 W. Maple Ave., Vienna, VA 22180.
