Mary Louise Cross
September 23, 1922 ~ March 31, 2019
Mary-Louise Cross, age 96, a resident of Vienna, Virginia since 1962, died on March 31, 2019 in Fargo, ND. She was the beloved mother of Stephen G. Cross, Mary E. Maling (Walter) and Paul M. Cross (Rhonda); grandmother of Stephen M. Cross (Jennifer), Mark H. Cross (Elizabeth), Mary C. Cross, Ian M. Cross (Kaylen) and Emily L. Maling and great-grandmother of Harlow Cross. Mary-Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Stephen Cross.
Originally from the Midwest, Mary-Louise was born in Iowa and lived in Illinois and Minnesota. While living in Minnesota, she studied nursing and enjoyed a summer resort that her parents owned in northern Minnesota.
Mary-Louise had a full and interesting life. She spent 24 years in Nursing. A large part of her training was in Nervous and Mental Diseases. She spent 2 years in the Army Nursing Corps working in military hospitals in the states of Washington, West Virginia, New Mexico, North Carolina and Florida. She spent the last 14 years of her career in the OB GYN field.
Mary-Louise had many varied interests including arranging dried flowers, cultivating African Violets, stamp collecting, genealogy and crocheting. Perhaps her favorite was quilting. Learning from her mother, Mary-Louise went onto quilt for over 70 years. The first show she entered was the QU show at the Torpedo Factory in 1986. Mary-Louise went on to enter quilts in over 20 shows.
The family will receive friends at Money and King Funeral Home, 171 W. Maple Avenue, Vienna, VA on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 from 10 AM until time of services at 11 AM. The interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at 11 AM. Those attending should gather at the administrative building at 10:15 AM.

Mary was a long-time member of Vienna Quilters Unlimited. She was a very integral part of our group and one of the very first quilters I ever met at VQU and the Nottaway bee (around 1985). She will be missed.
